Anyone thats put on FelPro 1250 Gaskets...

I just picked them up this weekend, and was about to install the intake. I noticed they dont line up, and before i go crazy with an x-acto knife, i just wanted to make sure im doing the right thing...

from the picture, the yellow lines indicate how ill have to trim the intake ports. Im kind of worried because ill have to go right to the edge of the silicone to make it fit the port. On the port on the end, i just have to cut it out to fit the port, right? (where the red lines are)

Something doesn't seem right there....i've never seen the intake runners that off before. I've had a couple sets of heads that were gasket matched to 1250s and i don't think they were that far off. What heads are those?

TrickFlow TrackHeat. I called TFS friday, to make sure i was getting the right gaskets, and the dude told me to make sure i got the FelPro 1250's...

Both set's of 1250's I've gone through were like that too. I had to notch the interlock part of the intake gasket so it slides over a bit more in relation to the ports.

Ahhhhh i see what you mean. So where it locks in with the head gasket, you just have to cut it a little so it slides over farther.. Thank you!

Are all the intake ports off the same amount? If so, I'd trim the head gasket tabs and just position the intake gaskets by sight -- I always put a light coat of RTV around the water jackets which would also serve to hold the gasket in place while intalling the intake.

As far as the water jacket triming, I normally just trim the little section on the lower left. However, I've seen may people not even bother trimming the water jacket hole with no adverse effects.

Yes, all the ports on both sides are off the same amount. When you say you use RTV on the water jacket holes, are you lining them up and letting them cure with the gaskets on there, then installing the intake? Ill probably cut as much of the water jacket port as i can to make sure i dont get any leaks. I dont want a chunk of gasket to end up stopping up my thermostat.

I apply a thin coat around the water jackets on both sides of the gaskets and immediately place the gaskets on the heads and position them. I then run the bead of RTV across the front and back of the lifter valley and let them all cure for about 20 minutes before I place the lower inatke on.

Do you use the black for the water ports as well, or blue for those and black for the ends of the intake?

Normally i do too, but i actually read the directions this time, and it recommended black for everything. Along with what everyone in here said. I just dont know if i should do the water jackets

I guess that all just depends on how much you like pulling leaking intakes and reinstalling them.

I also use the black across the front and rear and around the water jaskets

Ok, im sold on the idea... I just ordered a few tubes of RTV from the parts place, i should have this done tonight.

Thanks again for all the help.. made a little progress last night. Im changing out the valve covers, and just have a few odds and ends to tie up before i drop the motor in

Make sure you check distributor shaft play or you may have an oil pump shaft that is a touch too long and screw up that nice MSD distributor. Ask me how I know.

Oh and by the way looking real nice.....

We checked it before we put everything on it.. A guy that was helping me told me not to use that little washer on the shaft, then i read someones post here about it coming out with the dizzy... so we took the shaft out, installed the washer, installed the dizzy, and checked the shaft.
