i recently built a 347 with afr 185 heads, afm high rpm valve springs, victor jr. intake, 750 carb(don't have, any recomendations?) about 10.8:1 compression. i have the stage lll cam in the not finished block, do you think it would do good in this engine? how much power will it make? thanks steve

Go with a custom cam instead of asking people who never ran a stg III if it will work. Looks like that combo has easy 10 second capability, why guess at a VERY important part of the package?

i realize that a custom cam is ideal. but i was wondering, since i already have this cam in the motor, how it would do perfomance wise. yes eventually i will get a custom cam but no money for that right now. any suggestions on what kind of carb to get. would any old holley double pumper work on these big cams? thanks steve

that cam would work good for that combo. but as said before there is nothing better then a custom ground cam for your motor.. as for carb.. is that 750 you have a double pumper.. meaning mechanical secondaries.. and dual inlet? that 750 depending on what jets it has.. may be to big for it.. i would say go with a 650 double pumper with mechanical secondaries..

If the cam is already in the car....and you don't have money to get a new cam.....why are you asking us how it will do? Why not get the sucker on the road and find out the fun way?

The TFIII is a good cam, the carb will like the short duration and high lift, it could make more power with a tighter LSA ( f/i rollers.. leave the pulses to the carb a little weak).. but it will work fine!! disagree on the cfm for the carb.. (well actually, this way) If it wont see higher rpm ( 4000 and up..) then the smaller 650 will be good for street driving.. but the higher the rpm and the bigger the cubes and heads.. the more power in the upper rpm ranges.. and then the bigger carb is needed!!
your combo doesnt sound like a .. go to the store .. type!! SOOoooo... the 750 CFM will rock!! Keep the jets stock.. run it a few times and then probably need to bump UP the jets a few sizes.. but run it FIRST!! Jetting is important... but dont confuse fuel to air flow!! cool??
Like the man said... run it.. have fun, and stop sweating all the small stuff that you can work out over time and drives!! It is almost impossible to get a perfect suggestion over the forums, when there is a bazillion different ways that the engine got built!! Cool??

example... Vic Jr intake?? Race only?? it will look killer but a Weiand Stealth will out power it till 4500-5000 rpm!! see what I mean??

Have fun!!

Tfs Iii

It will run good with your combo. Its too much with a fuel injected car unless you have a dfi setup. I had one in my 94 cobra. I had a 306 w/ tfs track heat heads ported, polished, and shaved to 54cc along w/ the trick flow pistons making near 11 to 1 comp and it still idled and bucked like crazy with a custom tuned chip. The car ran good after 3500 rpm but it was a turd below that. Way too much cam for a small engine. I have a friend with that cam in his 393 FI car and its still alot.

thanks for the replies. the motor is still on the stand so now is the time to change stuff around. i was actually thinking of switching to a dual plane intake. im not sure i need it though because this motor is going into a 2600 pound 2wd ranger. as for rpm, i have a stock block and cast eagle crank so it won't be over 6500. i would like to make peak power by 6000 or so, so that i could shift at 6300-6400. im keeping the cam (if it fits!) so any suggestions on a new intake?
