I ordered some cams for my new motor Monday and I thought I needed new springs as well. The guy on the phone told me I didn't, that I just needed to buy their install kit. Anyone with experience know exactly what I need???

Anyone? I was wondering the same; I have been looking at SHM cams. (I want to build up my engine so I can increase my charger)

you need to post the cam spec before anyone can answer this. if you put you springs in coil bind you will damage stuff. for example if you picked a cam that has factor lift specs and more duration springs would not really be neaded unless your facory springs had high miles or you were building a higher reving application. I know with more radical shm cams (like 2760's)I would replace them just to be safe.

If you get the milder cams, I believe they make 2 grinds that have lower lift than the stock cams with long duration you can use the stock springs.

Car has almost 77k miles.

"2730 Street Performance, Mild race. Duration @ .050 230/230 Lift .500/.500 LSA 114. . 3.27-3.73 gears. Direct replacement for 92-98 SOHC. RPM range 1500-6000 with no valvetrain modifications."

Is this too mild for my setup.....
forged, 10.5:1, 20 over shortblock with a 150 shot and a 3 angle valve job???

Springs are required but recommended. Comp valve springs are used exclusively in our motors and have never seen a failure. Those cams aren't too mild for you car, especially if you haven't ported your heads. Did you just do a valve job, or are the heads ported?
