I know I promised the last thread was the last one about this but it brought up nothing but more controversy.

A LOT of people say any CAI is worthless. I was wondering if anyone had any numbers to support this (personal or an online test somewhere)

I was wondering if anyone had numbers to support HP gains with CAI. I am talking about the MAC Straight Shot, but any CAI is good (personal tests or online test somewhere)

This would solve the problem immediately.

CAI's are for looks, not for performance. most CAIS are more of Hot Air Inductions. metal heat sheilds etc..

Haha you wont be getting 17 or 25 hp off a CAI. If you had an 03 cobra you would be getting around that off just a CAI but not on a GT. From personal experience I got the densecharger CAI and shaved .2 off my 1/4.

straight shot makes its power by changing the MAF, leaning out your mixture or something. kind of a quick and dirty way to power. i have the JLT True CAI. its been dyno proven to make real power. check out svtperformance.com's 99-01 cobra section. personally i have dyno proven gains of 26.5 rwhp and 25 rwtq.
but i just know some internet experts will come in here and try to question those #'s

Hum, so the straight shot itself doesnt make power? I thought the straight shot made the power, and the MAF is seperate (even though it can be bought in a package). The Tech article talks about the CAI, not the MAF. Even then, I have an SCT tuner

Before and after every mod I do to my Stang, I test the results with my Gtech Comp. and then record my results in my log book. This is how I test:
1) record 3 baseline runs. [ I add the total of the 3 runs, then divide by 3 to get the average]
2) install mod
3) reset EEC, then go for 20 min. run so the EEC can relearn
4) record 3 runs
I then remove the mod, do step #3, then record 3 more runs to see if they match my baseline run, go back, reinstall mod, then step #3 again before doing my final 3 runs. It's a little time consuming but it eliminates any errors, so I know weather the mod truely works or not. I did this test with my Mac fenderwell CAI, then retested with just the open K&N under the hood.Stock air intake with K&N and snorkle removed. And lastly, the Mac upper intake tube with stock airbox.
After a full day on testing, I found zero gains in any of the tests. On the bright side, I didn't find any loss in HP on any of the tests either.
I never tested any of the other CAIs, just the Mac.

I just dont get the CAI = 0 gains. All CAI's that I know of come with K&N air filters or some form of hi performance air filter. Simply swapping from the stock air filter to a K&N will net you 5-6hp. Granted its not the 25+ Cobras get , but its something.

i remember a thread in the svt section of this site about the MAC Straight Shot. UncleMeat posted up some info about how it makes its power. Thats where I got my info..he's definetly one to know the deal too. You could PM him and ask him what the deal is with it.

Well, there may have been slight gains 1-2HP perhaps, but testing using 60ft times, 330ft times, 0-60, 1/8th mile, and 1/4 mile, there was no measurable difference, good or bad. I performed my tests using a new Frame filter,the K&N drop-in, and the Mac also uses the K&N.

I've taken my Gtech Comp to the track with me a few times and it is always very very close, never exact, but within .005 to .01 and same with the mph. I don't live even remotely close to a Dyno, so this is as accurate as I can test.

i know for a lot of foreign cars the cai will make a nice extra noise. anybody notice anything extra like this for the stangs?

Yes, 1-2 HP gains if your lucky!

on any car it sounds as if you can actually hear the air getting sucked into the engine
