Hi, a buddy has a 66 coupe inline-6. He wants to put a 302 carbed in it. Now a guy just offered him an aod and 8.8 rear out of 90 gt for basically nothing "couple 30 packs".
He wants to know what will need to be done to have the trans and rear work? Crossmember, driveshaft, ect.....

Any info would be great!

The AOD will not be a problem just get the correct flex plate. The 8.8 IIRC is wider than the 66 rear much closer to the 67 width.

You'll also need a special crossmember for that AOD and will have to shorten up the drive shaft a little. There's a special bracket you need for the kickdown IIRC as well. There are some complete conversion kits out there you'd probably want to look into...

Crossmember, short yoke from LTD (or shorten driveshaft) Lokar TV cable. New C4 trans mount Shift linkage from a member of www.vintage-mustang.com named Jim_Williamson. 5.0/AOD or 351W/AOD flywheel, for 50oz and 28oz 302s respectively.

As many of us have found out, insted of shortening the drive shaft, use a C-4 yoke And shorten its snout insted.

How would you do that? take it to a local machine shop and have it machined down or just break out the band saw?
