I dont mean to make things worse but last year in August my AOD in my 91 went out after 26 years,the last time it went out in 98 it was 1200 to rebuild, last year it was 3100 dollars, man that hit the savings like a ton of rocks and that was after i shopped around,there's a lot of stuff ill do my own but a auto trans is not one of them,too many things to go wrong, too much work, just wanted to give folks a idea of what it costs now to get this done.
Wow thats awesome,thats some low miles, i dont think you ever mentioned what year it is,84/85? in response to Aero's comment about the T5, i was going to do that on my 91, had the pedals installed (and are installed to this day) but then i was in a bad accident and shattered my left ankle and they had to fuse it together, although i can drive a standard to run someone to a hospital in a emergency my ankle starts hurting after just a few clutch pushes.
When i got my AOD rebuilt they did a good job but there were some hiccups,when i got the car back one of the top bellhousing bolts was left loose,to the point if i hadn't caught it it would have eventually fell out, 3 days after getting it i noticed a small puddle of tranny fluid under the tailhousing, instead of using the proper tailshaft seal that has a bell looking shape they used a regular flat seal, i had one brand new OEM Ford in my garage, called them and told them what i wanted done and it doesn't leak a drop to this day.
All this worries me, if they missed that what else did they miss? make sure and check top and bottom when you get your car back.

85 and yea I hear ya. Unfortunately I live in rural area and there is only 1 shop within 100 miles but I had that shop put rear gears in another car with no issues.
