the AOD was installed today. i don't know how it went yet because the last time i talked to my mechanic, tony, he was still working on it. he said he wasn't expecting any major issues though.

Tony just called. He said this:

The shifter cable bracket for the AOD is not part of the tranny, it is part of the cable assembly. Apparently, the cable assembly costs $200 from Ford, and if you use that cable assembly, it is not compatible with the shifter I have, which came from a 99+ car. Also, the compatible shifter is no longer available from Ford, so we would have to get one from a junkyard. But he has other jobs he has committed to, so he doesn't have time wait for it to be delivered. So he said he will have to fabricate a bracket and figure out a way to make it work, because he needs to get the car out of the shop by Monday.

He also said something about the way the torque converter attaches to the flexplate. I think the AOD converter has studs on the converter, whereas the Edge converter is threaded for bolts, so you need nuts to attach the AOD one to the flexplate.

Man Chris...I'm feeling for ya.....U sure have had your share of derailers........I'm tellin you...when you get that BMF together I want a vid with a hella burn out....
hope you catch a break with the shifter and TC

well, tomorrow has come and gone.

still not on the road

apparently, an AOD tranny needs the tv/kickdown cable attached in order to have the correct line pressure, otherwise it will burn up some stuff inside. our cars don't have the throttle linkage for that, but the fox throttle bodies do.

so now i get to do the fox throttle body conversion.

i am collecting the stuff currently. anyone have a cheap fox throttle body you want to donate to the project from hell?

prestigemustang.com wanted $125 for a kickdown cable from a 1990 gt. i said no thanks.

i'm going with lokar cables (they come with the necessary brackets). i'm still looking for a throttle body. i might get a 65mm cobra one off ebay. and i can get a throttle cable bracket for $50. the most expensive thing is the damn idle air control valve ... they are $55. it looks like it is going to run me about $300 all together

sorry to hear about the new problems.

i got a friend that bought i fox that had a cobra intake and chrome throttle body.(i think 65 or 70mm. wasnt stock is all i really know) he sold the intake and fuel for sure but he may still have the throttle body. i doubt he still has it but i'll check for you

best of luck man. you deserve to have that thing on the road.

for the time being, i am going to see if i can use my cruise control cable for the kickdown cable for the AOD. after all, it is already attached to the throttle body, so there may be some hope there. if not, maybe i can hook up a lokar AOD kickdown cable to the cruise control connector and run that to the tranny.

bottom line ... for now, i'm just gonna see if i can rig it up so i can get it over to the exhaust place for that work. at least then, i can putter around without making all the car alarms go off.

but i'll take a short video of it with the open headers just for your entertainment. that mother is LOUD

depending on how things go with the cruise control cable thing i'll decide if i need to go with a fox throttle body conversion. i expect i will have to do the fox TB thing.
