My AOD won't shift in to the next gear, it is stuck in first. When I put into overdrive it just stays in first and the rpms redline. I had it to a shop and the guy said the cable needed greasing and the rod needed to be replaced, but instead of replacing it they just greased it to. What is this rod and how hard is it to replace?

i suck at slushboxes, but i think they are talking about the T.V. cable. also called a kickdown cable i think.
sorry, no more help. i do know that on older cars (read old school, no electronics), they need to be adjusted correctly.
good luck.

It could be a number of problems. Unfortunately, they're all pretty serious.

If it really was a bad TV cable, greasing it at this point probably won't help too much. A bad or poorly adjusted TV cable can cause serious damage to the tranny. It needs to be adjusted by someone who knows what they're doing.

Even if it's something else, you're going to have to get it to a reputable shop. If it is just the TV cable, repairing and adjusting it may get you back on the road, but you could be looking at a complete tranny failure later on.

Sorry I don't have any better advice. Ask around, and find a good shop. Don't just go looking through the yellow pages.
