AOD - TKO500/600

with this swap will I lose any power to the wheels in a pretty much stock 5.0 (mods in the sig) I plan on doing big things and I dont want to buy a transmission twice

that being said I heard that going from a T-5 to a tremec you lose power to the wheels

going from a AOD to a tremec is this possible?

is 1800 dollars enough to swap it you think?

You willl loose power going from a tremec (or any manual transmission for that matter) to an automatic.

It is possible to swap from an AOD to any manual transmission. I think $1,800 will only be enough to swap to a t-5 unless you find a good deal on a tremec.

Just my $.02. :)

I think that power would be moot because with a stock configuration, you probably don't go to the track, or to the track much. You will definatly get a better launch time and have tons more fun driving the 5 speed. I swapped my AOD out 5 days after getting my vert. I don,t regret it at all.

Why are you going right to a TKO though? Unless you have the money, is it neccesary for you? I think it will cost much more than $1800 to do a TKO swap because you will have to buy a bell housing, the tranny, a clutch set up, a new flywheel, cable, petal set, cable, fork, shifter boot, shifter ball, manual ECM, maybe make some driveline adjustments and some other crossmember adjustments. I would guess your looking at a minimum of $2500 if you plan on doing it your self. Much more if your paying someone to do it. It would be nice though! :D

I was thinking of doing this also and i think 1800 will be fine, i can get the tranny for 1,050 , king cobra clutch175, bell housing 150, pedals used 50 bucks if that, BBk cable kit 100, fly wheel 80, and computer 100 bucks. I think thats a little less or more then 1800 you should be fine.

I'm fully aware of what is needed, I did not know the pricing on the tremec stuff though,

hell I could do the T-5 swap for under 1000 dollars

but I plan on supercharging down the road and might as well knock it out now.

what the question was - does a TKO create more drivetrain loss then a T-5

thats better stated

I can get a pedal assembly quadrant cable etc..... for under 100 bucks

Id need a new driveshaft, bell, cross member, I think flywheel? and tranny to block plate?

I would not know where to find those items though

if anybody could point me in the right direction that would be nice

what is up with this manual computer stuff as well? I thought u could retain the auto computer????????

Im sure you can use the auto computer but you can get that plate at a junkyard or check the classifieds here. The cross member you can find one new on ebay for like 35 dollars shipped. I would just get an aluminum driveshaft from summit, along with the bell housing and fly wheel. I think it should be near or around the same as the regular t-5 just stronger.

I did the AOD -> 3550...as long as you don't go TKO, then you don't need a new drive shaft or computer. If you get a TKO, you'll need a different yoke coming out of the tranny (different # of splines, but I BELIEVE it's the same length)

driveshaft is the same length...you just need a new yoke which is like 75 bucks or something if i remember correctly. youll need a new bellhousing also and a clutch/flywheel combo to match the splines of the new tranny.....which youll have to get anyways since youre swapping from an aod. give holcomb motorsports a call and talk to them. it cost me about 2500 bucks for everything i needed and to get it installed which cost 450 bucks. you wont lose any power to the wheels, the first gear is a higher number (lower gear, if i remember correctly) than the t-5. but the 5th gear is a higher gear so you dont turn as much rpms on the highway. its heavier than the stock t5 also...so thats the only disadvantage if thats what you want to call it
