I agree, try to get in gear with the engine off.

IMO sounds like you have it adjusted wrong. If the cable is too tight or too loose your going to have problems getting it in gear.

Loosen the cable a little. There should be some slack in the cable. If you can move it a little with your pinky, that should be good. Looser for lower pedl height and tighter for higher pedal height. That is why I think your cable is adjusted too tight.

No slack in cable opeated clutch systems. None! Slack in the cable will allow it to pop off the quadrant. If you had a King Cobra installation guide, you would read and find out that the cable is supposed to be tight & running a preload. The TB is designed to operate with preload and will last longer & run quieter with preload.

Put slack in the cable operated system and you end up with exactly the symptoms you describe - can't get into gear, or grinds when you try to shift.

Put the car up on jackstands on all 4 corners. Put the car in 1s't gear & start the engine. Look & see if the rear wheels turn with the clutch pedal pressed all the way to the floor. That means that the cable is not tight enough to disengage the clutch. Tighten up the cable at the clutch fork until you have 1" or so of travel before it starts to disengage. Use the firewall adjuster to fine tune the engagement point to suit your driving style.

When you are done & the clutch is properly adjusted, the rear wheels will not turn with the car in any gear and the clutch pedal is fully pressed to the floor.

I forgot that JRICHTER knows everything. I have a very small amount of slack and the clutch does not slip off the fork and the pedal is about two inches from the floor. Try again dude.
