AODE slow to shift from 1-2, again

My AODE (61,XXX) miles all at once about 3 weeks ago started shifting from 1-2 at about 3000 RPMs. I took it to a shop, and they suggested a trany fluid flush, fluid and filter change, which I let them do. This worked great for a little over 2 weeks, but this weekend it all of a sudden started doing it again. No fluid leaks. Any thoughts besides the dreaded rebuild?

mine did that for a long time, then just decided to never shift from 1 to 2...i replaced it

Did you go with a 470RW? If so, is the 470RW a direct swap? I've heard these are better than ours, and it looks like they are almost the same price new as a rebuild.

The 4R70W from 99+ V6 Mustangs is a direct bolt in and is a very tough transmission.

The 4R70W from 4.6 cars will not bolt up to your 5.0.

the computer will have to be reprogrammed for the 4r70w because of the wide gear ratio.

so it plugs right in to the harness and everything bolts right up, all that is needed is a pcm reprogramming?

i dont quite understand what you mean by saying it shifts from 1-2 at 3000 rpms, do you mean it wont shift any less than this, or it shifts at 3000 at WOT?.... either way it could be accumulator problems, if the one you have in there now is stock... no wonder why your having problems, i don even think they make the old style accumulators anymore, ford sent out a letter that told all tranny shops to use the upgraded accumulators wear out too quickly (60,000 miles isnt out of the question)... i had mine wear out at about 72, 000 when i bought it so it could have been happening well before this
i dont know whether or not it was an official recall or just a suggested replacement, but either way its not a hard job... just a drop of the pan pretty much, the tranny can stay in the car easily for this, i know my trans guy did it for free for me in about 20 minutes when i was there with this problem... just look into it before you buy the 4r70W...

According to the shop, it is missing second all together, but I think it still hits second, just not for very long. It won't shift at all below 3000RPMs, at WOT it shifts at closer to 5000RPMs. Other gears seem to be fine, just the 1-2 shift.
