MONTANA
Got to play with my 91 GT today. Wow, its slow, even with i B&M shift kit. My 90 coupe and 87 GT(which had a T5) I had in the past were different animals. They flew!!
Is it normal for the tires not to squeal from a stop when i floor it? It has no Pickup. Only the mods the car has is u/d pulleys and o/r h pipe with some cheap mufflers. The car still has factory 2.73's installed. What should I do to fix this problem.

Mine is the same way. Same gears and feels like a tank off the line but once it gets to almost 3 grand it pulls like there is no tomorrow. On downshifts to pass It snaps your neck good.:nice: That was when it was running, it hasn't ran in 3 weeks

My 93 Gt Vert came with 3.27's stock...the car would chrip the tires from a dead stop..I since then threw in some 3.73's and it has no problem breaking the tires loose from a stand still..Only mods that has is an Off road pipe...Flowmaster welded in the with the stock tail pipes and the air silencer removed with a K&N air filter...In the midrange the car pulls hard for what it is...Cant wait to get the 87 done with the mods in my sig...that should be a fast AOD car...:D

ive been drving my 89 hatch for 2 days now, and last night i was at a dead stop and just smashed the gas and it spun the tires and i hung it sideways a little in first till the tranny shifted 2nd and bogged. It all depends on your tires really

Im pretty positive the car has stock gears, and for me 1st lasts till about 50mph.

But yea AOD's suck, if you wanna fix the problem a clutch pedal and 5-speed is the only cure

I like my AOD...And if you build it right and get a Good torque convertor it will be a Blast to drive...My 87 GT has a wicked shift kit in it and its so much different to drive the my Stock 93 AOD....Cant wait to throw in a Good torque convertor in my 87..should help it out alot too, being that has a supercharger should put it in the powerband even quicker....I hope...lol:D

my long term goal my car is once my T5 explodes is to put an AOD in a decent torque converter and a shift kit. still be able to manualy bang gears when you feel like it but not have to worrie about banging them every time you stop and go.

Since you already have a shift kit a gear and stall would help greatly. A full manual/auto valve body would be even better but that stuff is not cheap. I'm running a Transgo and that thing absolutely slams second gear at WOT but as Fox87GT mentioned, more control over gear changes would be nice. I can still recall the first time I got on my '92 when it was bone stock (2.73). Shocking is the only word I can use to describe it. I've driven many stock(ish) 5-speed 5.0's and every time I do I'm reminded of why the 5.0 is so popular to this day. Still a fun, punchy car for the street. With the AOD, not so much.

The only reason i'd swap a 5-speed for a girl-a-matic is if i was on the verge of a low 9/high 8-second 1/4mile time, or if i lost my left leg.

I dont plan on wearing tennis shoes to the track anytime soon

You could always put a couple of donuts on the rear....

Yea Heres the order in which I did my AOD and trust me some guys could not catch my 1st to 2nd gear shift, by the time they touch there clutch I was already in 2nd, I even chirp from 1st to 2nd. hope this helps
1. 3.73 gears
2. 2500 or 2800 stall converter
3. Transgo Valve bodie(not kit) this an actual modified Valve bodie take old ones out.
4. single solid input shaft summit racing has them.
I would of course rebuild the whole thing with some better internal stuff but this is the order on what I did and man does it really make a difference.
