are black bullitts painted or p.coated?

i recently got a pair of 10.5" black bullitts with the plan to paint the front stockers to match. well today i went to the auto body shop to see how much they wanted to paint my fronts to match. basically they refused to paint them saying that the paint wouldnt last, rather than look like an azz telling them that the rims are painted i figured id ask whether i was wrong or not, so...are they painted or powder coated?

I was gonna have mine powder coated just to be safe, I dont trust clear coat in an area I use so many chemicals (Brake and Wheel cleaner etc...)

i thought even the stock bullitts were painted, coming from ford i dont see them powder coating every wheel off the line(judging from the cheapness of their other materials). i also dont see wheel replicas selling powder coated rims for under $200, imho.

Regardless, any competent body shop should be able to repaint them to last. It’s not like the spoke section is a high heat area, that’s gonna bubble it off. Hell, I painted my old turbine wheels and they were still looking good after 3-years. Screw it, scuff them up, get a matching colour and paint them yourself.

just be careful..a lot of wheel cleaners will also take off powder coating...

Wheels can be painted. A lot of Fox-body guys repaint their 91-93 pony wheels all the time.

The thing with the bullitt wheels is that they are painted and then the entire wheel is clearcoated. When i clean mine up, they have a nice sparkle on the spokes.

I was going to get bullitt wheels with black spokes until i saw a set in person. The spokes just don't have the same luster. They almost seem painted with no clearcoat over it. Very dull flat finish.

I need to see a set of aftermarket anthracites to see if they look the same

mine are pretty shiny, maybe the set you saw was crappy . and i would paint them myself but i live in an apt., oh well i dont know these people anyway right

Eeek didn't know that, thanks My stock wheels ARE painted, I guess I should have stated that, what I was planning was to get these one PCd then get a set of light wieght junker rims for the track when I start running.

if u want it to look good u gotta go all out and not cheap out on it... dont jsut paint the rims they will come out crappy. i would just buy 2 new bullitts and sell ur stock ones. jsut my 2 cents

you'll have to mix a hardener with your paint if you want the finish to last. a friend sprayed my mark vii rims with 4 coats and they held up very well for 2 winters of sand and salt beatings with only a few chips noticed. i think it was more from poor prep before painting as the chips were more of a peel effect.
