Are FMU's Safe?

The title says it all....are they?

I really want a Novi 1000 or Vortech SC-trim kit, but I don't have the cash to drop on the kit (1,700 or so), a new MAF, the injectors, the tune, the fuel pump, and whatever install I can't do.

I'll probably be able to install most of the kit myself, with the exception of the fuel pump. Will my car be "in danger" running an FMU and the stock 19 lb/hr injectors with a basic dyno tune (timing/fuel pressure)? I will be switching to a new MAF/larger injector/chip tune when I can afford it.

Lastly, what size injectors should I shoot for in the end...36'ers?

They are safe as long as they are working properly. Friend of mine had a crack in his diaphram..(thin peice of metal in there) and it caused his car to run rich, fouled his plugs, and gave him driveability problems. He eventually fixed it.

The car will run much better and smoother without one( if you have the bigger injectors), but in the end, yes shoot for 36# injectors.

It depends on what you mean by "safe". If the FMU is operating correctly and you don't have any other issues, then an FMU will do the job it is supposed to do. But like stated above, if you run into a problem with the FMU or your fuel system can't handle the extra pressure then you can run into problems. Personally, I would wait till I had the money to buy all of the needed parts before installing the supercharger. I know its difficult to wait for more HP, but sometimes it is worth the wait.

Thanks for the info guys. The supercharger kit will probably be available by the end of the summer, if I decide to go with it. The $500 tune, $250 injectors, $150 MAF, etc. will probably have to wait another year. Oh well, I'll figure something out.
