are G-tech performance meters accurate?

Does anyone have the G-tech performance pro? My friend had a 98 GT that he totaled, he has one, so we decided to try it out in my car. the first 3 runs I had like a mid-15. The next run I got a 13.9, next a 14.449, then lastly a 15.2. This seems like an awfully broad range of times. how accurate are these things?

they have to be perfectly level and reading zero g's when you are sitting still.

did you have it pointing down when you ran a 13.9 or were you going down hill and actually did go that much faster?

They can be accurate, but you have to set them up and use them correctly.

no, i was on a level road when i hit the 13.9, i think it must have just made a mistake

Mine works great in MOST cars (I have the old style).... we've noticed that if you have a lot of suspension mods you'll confuse them. In other words if you car sits at a different angle say low in the front then when you are at the 1/4 mile with the nose in the air pulling like a mofo... it'll throw off the reading cause you aren't level anymore.

Also you do have to make sure you are on a fairly level road and you have the thing square with the car.

Mine is within a tenth on the time, but you should note a higher mph on the G-Tech then what you get on a timeslip.... reason for this is the G-Tech estimates your MPH AT the 1/4 line. The track is a TRAP speed that is an estimate between two sensors near the finishline.

I think I said that right.

Yes you did, the G-Tech will probably show ~ 2mph faster than the track.

through a bullet level on it and then see what happens.

I mounted a level to the top of my VC-200 just for that purpose.

I took mine to the track, it was more than 1/2 second off on the ET, and several mph off in the trap. I expect the trap to be off because of the different method of calculation. It also told me that I had 235 rwhp, when the dyno said I had quite a lot more...

So basically, it's a moderately fun toy, nothing more. The theory is sound, but the execution is only so-so with the cheap electronics.

Depends on which unit you buy and how well the individual meter is calibrated. My VC-200 was way more than the G-Tech. I've seen others report good consistancy with G-Techs.
