Are speaker baffles worth it?

Are sound baffles good for speakers and sound quality, or are they a waste of money?

They can actually make the sound worse by essentially creating a leaky, unwanted enclosure. They're decent at keeping speakers dry in an environment in which it is needed, but I still cut the bottom (as mounted) out of them.
