First off, this is a great resource for any mustang enthusiast looking for some advice. I have a few more questions before I am ready to put my 66 back together, and todays topic is heads :D

I want to run a nice cam in my 289, and I got to thinking about screw in studs, valve lift, stock springs, and basically realized my stock C code heads just arnt going to cut it if I want a pretty big cam in there.

They are stock 289/302 heads with screw in studs, valves, springs, all made for a somewhat high performance cam. Would anyone recommend buying a set of made up heads such as these? I am temped to purchase them because they are within my budget, and I want to run something like a Comp Cams 268H series. I guess another question I have is if a 268H would have enough lift to cause interference with piston-valve clearance.

Would anyone recommend/not recommend these heads?

Thanks in advance!

My answer (recommend them or not) depends on how much they are going to cost you. I think the 268H will be fine behind them, IF you work the exhaust ports quite a bit, they are definitely the weak point. Another option is to get 351W heads, they have larger valves and with the same amount of money/work will flow MUCH better than the 289 heads ever can.

Sorry, for some reason the link wont work. This is the description.

This is a vary nice set of 289 closed chamber heads, they have been completly rebuilt, including hard ex. seats new valve guides, milled surfaces and a 3 angle valve job they also have a fresh set of larger 1.940/1.600 stainless steel performance valves, the springs are good to .580 lift they have 110lbs seat psi. we have also opened up these heads in the seat and bowl areas to un-shroud the larger valves and make these breath, the biggest problem for these engines is poor breathing these heads will solve this problem these heads have been upgraded with a set of hardened screw in studs, valve locks and high temp valve stem seals, all parts in these heads are new no used junk! over all this is a vary nice set of 289 heads they will make a nice addition to your hot rod or resto project, these heads bare the casting #C3AE they are a matching set the chambers are 54cc's/ the dates in the pic's are not correct pic's are a week old. this is a vary nice set of nicely upgraded vintage heads.

He wants 500 for both, and they are already assembled and ready to bolt on and go.

And while this thread is still active, just for fun, whats the biggest cam you guys would recommend I run in this car for the most driveability/power? It will have a 5 speed swap in it when the cam is put in. I want the most power I can get, but still able to drive it pretty easily.

those are almost exactly what i have in my capri. same size valves similar combustion chamber(66 heads) opened up exhaust ports with some work in the bowls. took my 302 in a stock chassis capri mid 13 in the quarter with an e303 cam in it.

actually a very good buy
