All –
I’m at a difficult decision here with my coupe project –
I pulled a 351w and trans from a 1970 LTD – the block is back .30 over – the LTD trans is an automatic (I think a C-6) but it could be a C-4 …I’m still cleaning it up (will run the numbers) …I have a 1993 4cyl coupe / auto – that I’m taking it down to the ‘shell’ but was going to leave the dash and steering wheel in …I’m a paint and body person (worked in a bod shop when younger) ….but with making the cam choice to rebuild the motor – I really want to switch over the coupe’s automatic to a T-5 stick …….that means tearing the dash apart ….hanging pedals …cutting holes …finding all of the assemblies – clutch fork etc…..I’m re-building the motor 1st so I have to make the decision so I can pick a cam….but …it’s a commitment ….I thought making the decision to do an all ‘black’ interior was bad enough – new seat belts / etc…but since it needs seat covers headliner etc anyway …it wasn’t as bad as this …what do you guys think about switching it over from a auto to a stick….no drag strip – this will be a weekend cruiser…..let me know….
thx

the t-5 swap isnt as bad as your making it out to be, just need pedals, no need to take the dash out, dont even have to remove the center console...

Whether the t-5 lasts behind the 351 is a whole different story

If it a street car put the stick. Make it a mans car.When you are laying out second and cherping third , thats what you want. You done so much work dont get lazy now!! good luck. If you need pedals or any of that stuff i got it let me know.

for quartermileking;

I had a 87 and the body was rusting away. Got a 4 cyl 91 from Cali. I took everything I needed from the 87 except I forgot to get the clutch brake pedal assy. If you have an assy. for sale or trade let me know.

for chgovfk;

As far as cutting holes and removing the dash. Henry Ford had the idea and they stuck with it. If the mustang was offered with a manual which we know it is the holes are technically there they just have to be punched out. they are perforated and a hammer and flat punch should get them out. the pedal assy bolts in the same exact way just a matter of it having one or two pedals.

I swapped an auto for manual, the pedal swap was not bad at all, took about an hour. No cutting or modifying needed, unbolt the auto pedal assy. and bolt in the clutch pedal assy. It definatly made it it much less difficult by removing the drivers seat.

I have had both transmissions in my Mustang and prefer the manual over the boring auto.

thanks!!!

From what I'm reading - I'm going with the stick....for the money to rebuild that auto w/a shift kit ....I can get a T-5....rebuilt....I hope your right on the pedals ...thanks
