I bought auto lite spark plugs for my 1992 5.0... I was stupid and didnt gap the plugs. What are the autolites gapped at and what should they be?? Thanks scott
If I remember right all of my Autolite 25s were gapped too much and I had to tighten the gap to get to .054, I think I would at least pull one out and check it to give yourself a ballpark idea.
The idea is for N/A applications to open the gap up as large as the ignition will handle before you start expierencing misfire. With the 5.0's igntion, 0.052-0.056 is the range. People usually split the middle and call it 0.054".
With aftermarket ignitions you can increase gap to about 0.060"
Booster or nitrous applications require a smaller gap around 0.035"
This applies to 87+ Mustangs.
Pre-87 had weaker ignitions and different heads therefore some models gapped at 0.045". Some service manuals incorrectly state the 0.045" gap as the gap for all 79-93 Mustangs, so keep in mind that that is wrong.
