Whats up Stangnet? I have a quick question. Before anyone brings up doing a search, I have already been their and done that. How does a 05-09 stock automatic Mustang gt compare to a stock automatic 05-06 GTO in performance? When I say performance i'm mostly concerned with 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. I have searched all over the net(for months), but have yet to find a clear answer. Only thing I have came up with is scenario's such as manual vs. auto, or modded vs. modded, or modded vs stock. Motor Trend listed 5.1 0-60 and 13.6 1/4 for the auto stang a couple years ago. The best I've seen for the auto 05 GTO was 5.5 0-60(can't remember the 1/4 times). The stats for the auto GTO came from Edmunds if im not mistaken, but there times are usually slow. The reason I'm asking is because I may purchase either the Stang or GTO sometime next year. On another note has any body seen someone else or personally been head to head with a auto 05-06 GTO?

The '05-'09 Mustang GT automatics are pretty much a dead even race with an LS2-powered '05-'06 GTO automatic, and would win by a slim margin against the LS1-powered '04 GTO automatic. Both cars have a good aftermarket following, so both can be made as fast as your budget allows.

I owned a 1968 GTO for 9 years way back when, and am one of those "classic" GTO guys who never warmed up to the 2004-6 GTO styling, but I certainly appreciate their performance. I still prefer the Mustang when it's all said and done, though.

Thats an interesting question. Considering these two vehicles are considerably neck and neck in regards to bone stock 0-60 and/or 1/4 mile times, I would look into other aspects. For example, which vehicle do you like the looks of better and second, do you intend on making the vehicle you buy even faster in terms of performance modifications. Lastly, do you intend on modifying the exterior of the vehicle?

Now this is were in my opinion the GTO loses and loses big! The aftermarket industry is so massive and competitive that there is and endless sea of after performance upgrades that far overshadow the meek GTO mods that are available. Lets say both vehicles were within a close price range and close in terms of stock off the line times. The Ford Mustang GT will incontestably supersede when it comes to modifications. There are an unlimited number of affordable aftermarket modifications for the Ford Mustang unlike the GTO. If this were the bottom line for you, then it would be a no contest.

Our company attends SEMA every year and I can say with experience that Ford owns the aftermarket performance industry regarding the Mustang and has for decades. If you looking to up the performance at all, you may want to give the Mustang a very close look. But if you are a GTO fan and/or are in love with the GTO's bland looks then you should buy what makes you happy. Good luck with whatever you choose! Both are fun cars.

Thanks for the replies!! Well basically I have thought long and hard about both cars. And in my opinion both have there advantages and disadvantages. I love the looks of the Mustang, but i also love the sleek looks of the gto(and they are rare). Basically I asked the question of wich is faster stock to help lead me in on direction or the other. The reason i say stock, is because the car will remain stock for a while. As far as apearance add ons, Im not really in to that. Aftermarket wheels will be about as far as i go with either( I prefer the stock look). I've always been a mustang guy, my first car was a 94 GT which was lightly modded( Eibach springs, minor bolt on's, 18" cobra r's). My current car is a 03 gt wich is basically stock except for some Flow's. Since I haven't driven either car, that will be the next step in determining which car I go for. Well anyway, thanks for the feed back!!
