Automatic consol shifter help

I have just purchased a 65 convertible with automatic consol shifter. There is no tab on the shifter so you can change gears without pushing the button on the shifter. I can find pics of the cable but none showing the tab and how it is retained in the shifter handle. Any pics or info would be greatly appreciated.
