autometer gauges

im gettin some gauges soon and i was wondering whether or not to get mechanical or electric oil pressure gauge? i dont know if maybe the sending unit could get in the way or what.

It is kinda a PITA, I'll try to see if I can get a decent pic of mine and post it for you. I had to run a short nipple, then T it. I put the stock sender in the end of the T, had the T rotated to put the new Autometer sender up through the opening in the P/S bracket, and then installed the brackets / etc...

It looks like this now... (down is toward the front of the engine)

-T(stock)
(Autometer)

It will make a lot more sense if I post a picture later. lol

For my electrical oil pressure unit, I wanted to still have my stock OP gauge, so I had to get a 2.5 in (I think) brass tube, a 90* bend straight down, and a 3 way tree, and put the aftermarket sender pointing down, and the stocker pointing where I had to point it to clear the filter and stuff. it was a tight fit.

As for the water temp, I just put the aftermarket sender in the stock location, and tapped the water neck and put the stock one there.

I think it's easier to do an electric OP gauge, even though the sender is obviously big. Slow 5.0 had a good thread about how he plumbed his stuff, with part numbers and specs on the brass he used (in case you come across it in a search).

One alternative is to run a braided line from the block to a remote location. Then put your Tee there (where you'll have lots of space).

Just for the record, Ive had my gauges for almost a year, and I have no leaks or anything.

I tried the putting the oil pressure sending unit at the block with the brass tees and it was a very tight fit and I coudn't get it tight so it leaked a little. I ended up getting the autometer braided hose from summit and routed/mounted the sending units to the bottom of the frame rail next to the radiator. You'll need to cut the plug off the factory wire and extend it to reach it's new place. For the water temp sending unit I bought a new water neck with the tap on top for a sending unit. Don't buy the chrome Ford racing ones... they crack & leak easily

Me too!

(except my oil pressure and water temp gauge are Autometer mechanical gauges)
