Autometer shift light..err sorta help

My friend called me yesterday and told me that he got an autometer mini light off of ebay. The guy said it was a shift light in his ad.

He got it in the mail and in the directions that came with it it mentions everything but RPM's...it seems to be more of an emergency light for fluids and requires a sending unit.

Did he get ripped off? Is this not a shift light? If not is there anyway to make it one?

They do have those little mini lights that can be used as a shift light but you need an RPM activated switch to make it work. I think the switch costs about as much as a regular shift light. I think they will plug right in place of the large shift light on an autometer tach that comes with the external light. What color is the bulb? They make those things in red and blue for oil or water warning lights. If you had he red one, you would need to get a oil pressure switch to trigger it at whatever pressure you want.

Thanks for the info. I will have to ask him. I know he got the light for 30bux off of ebay. Just pissed us off that the guy was advertising it as a shift light when its obviously most likely not one

I am sure he will chime in on this thread

It's the one with a the red light. Why would i need to get a oil pressure switch if i want to use it as a shift light, or do you mean if i was going to use it as a warning light. I dont want to use it as a warning light so maybe ill sell it. I need a shift light

I meant that if you had the red one which is really meant to be used as a low oil warning light, you would need to get the pressure switch. Even the regulay oil pro-lite's dont come with the sender. You could still use it as a shift light if you wanted to but you would need to buy the ROPM switch. Regardless of color the lights are all the same. And I know that you can buy a yellow lens and night cap kit, at least for the bigger lights I know you can and probably for the little one too. But to answer your question... technically that is not a "shift light" and the guy should not have advertised it as one.
