ADVICE ON TIRE SIZE PLEASE!!!

I want to put 265/40-18's on my 01 gt but i read somewhere that increasing the diameter of the wheels/tires will result in a loss of torque.
the rims i am getting are 18x9. i like the 40's because they fill up the gap nicely. i would appreciate some advice on what tire size i should get. thanks.
also are 275 too wide to put all around.

the larger the rim the slower you will go, it takes more power to turn an 18" rim than a 15" rim because the axle has to turn more times, thats why ppl put slicks and drag radials on smaller rims usually. I have 275/35/18's all around and they dont rub just kick up some dirt on the side of my car sometimes.

yes, larger diameter wheels will sort of eat up some of your effective torque, but this can be offset by lower gears
