I have the B cam on 1.7's with a 2* advance. It never bothered me before but since now that I have Nitto's on the back and can actually use first and second gear, the tq loss sucks. I rev it a little and drop the clutch which makes the tires dig in but is just feels real sluggish but once it hits 4000rmps, it's like I turned on a power switch. You can hear the exaust change tones and everything. People are either going to think I'm spraying or have some Micky Mouse kind of vtec system, or some trash like that.

Is this something I just will have to deal with having a cam?

Is there anything I can do to this cam to help?

Do I need to get a different cam?
- TFS Stage 1? Something cheap because I am planning on AFR heads and a custom with that within the next year.

I too was thinking of changing my cam because I was curious of the newer cams and how they'll perform. I have the B cam straight up with 1.7's and I like it.... but I never tried anything else so I have nothing to compare it to except for the stock cam.

An increase in traction will make your engine feel sluggish. With standard tires my engine revs all day because I'm just boiling the tires, but with the Mickeys if I dont rev it up really high the engine really dies down before picking up. Its like if you just took off running; no problem. But if you have to start running with a strap tied to 200 lbs, you'd be pretty slow at first. Your engine has to fight the traction now. This may not be the cause but a possible reason. Id have to feel it to know, but its common. Hope this helps.

Advance the cam another 2 * and help to work the tires better!! 4* is amazing !! the TFS1 is a good cam and works killer... but again the low end is a factor on all cams with a 110+ intake center line!! IF you install the TFS1 , unless you install it at 108 or 106 , you will see a loss on the low end also... and probably more than the 2* ( 105* installed ) B cam!! SOOoo... yes a low end loss is tobe expected on a cam chainge.. that is why a cam usually goes with a set of gears... I would just learn how to launch on the tires and leave the combo alone.... it is ALL going to change next up grade anyway!! and talk about some low end loss... big heads/ports and valves will take away velocity also...

Just me...........................

Here are afew guys running advanced on the cam...

Thanks everyone. I ran at the track today and found my big problem is in my trans/clutch/shifting. I don't think messing with the engine is going to do me any good. With a good launch it works out perfectly, I hit the "switch" as soon as the weight transfers. Besides, 1st gear hardly gets me to the 60ft mark. I better take care of what's wrong first.

I will have to put the stock cam back in to pass emmisions this fall. I probally won't put it back in, instead, durring winter, I will probally tear it down and make a new cam one of my mods.
