Bad brake booster? Can't do a brake stand.

I replaced my booster and master cylinder about 4 years ago because the booster had a leak. I can't remember ever being able to do a brake stand. I just assumed an old car and old brakes aren’t that good. Talking to other people they say that my pedal should be nice and soft since I have a new booster. The braking power doesn’t bother me but a good amount of force is needed to stop fast. Now that I'm more into racing I'd like to be able to do a brake stand so I can heat up the tires.

I couldn't tell you if the booster is going bad. But if you are getting into racing, and want a burn out, line locks are awesome. I wish I had got one sooner. Easier to do a burn out, no more kicking sideways, and and of course easier on the brakes.

First, Powerbooster ck. key off....pump brake petal a few times to bleed off Res.
Hold brake petal firmly down and start engine on high idle(1500-1800)
Working booster......Petal will drop approx halfway and remain firm.
Non working booster or leaking....petal remains in place or slowly drops down to firm petal.

More than half petal travel.......booster pushrod or master cyl pushrod needs adjustments.
Power assisted brakes drum or disc should have stopping feel with enough pressure to light the brake lights.
Ie. At night, Slight down hill coast.....press petal and watch for the brake lights to come on. you should be slowing down slighty but not nose diving.

Next, If your going to race.......Get a line locker with an Auto.

Your just going to heat up your rear brakes without it and what good are they going to be at the end of the track?

Or just go Stick and drop 2nd holeshots.:p
