OK, so I searched previous posts, found nothing. How can I tell if my motor mounts are bad? I have multiple suspension upgrades (springs, strut brace, etc...) Car is nearly impossible to shift smoothly and quietly. Changed to poly tran mount. No improvement, but the tranny noise does seem louder! I am thinkin loose rearend (3.55 were installed prior to my purchase), bad motor mounts, or bad Upper/Lower Contol Arms. I do like to drive like I stole it. THANKS

honestly i have never thought it could be tranny or clutch...why would it feel like something was loose and make noise...like there is play in something that there should not be? how to adjust factory(assumption) clutch? how to test for broken motor mount?

I just change my motor mounts, after nearly 2 years of trying to figure out why it would clunk sometimes on startup. Also, if I sat on a steep incline, then started off @ low rpms it would vibrate pretty good. Both mounts were toasted. New polys made her smooth again.

Yup same here on the GT.You can tell if they are bad by looking under the car at the mounts,if it looks as if the rubber is ripped and torn then they are bad. Also like he said above when I would start it i would here a clunk sound and get a bad vibration while accelerating.Took me 2 days to find the problem.:(

Heres a link to a post I had about my mounts, notice the blk rubber, when I took these out the rubber just hit the ground....:rlaugh: They arent too bad to change, they take some time tho,I had to pull the starter, loosen the mounts then using a floor jack and a block of wood to protect the oil pan, jack the motor up remove all bolts...take some muscle and and an 18" breaker bar with various extensions. The really fun part is installing the new ones and getting it all to line up properly:notnice:

Well I bought mine from a local auto parts, they were call Energy Suspension, dont remember the exact name,You could just have Ford get them, they should be about $37 each.

Auto parts stores and Ford dealer usually dont stock them, its a order item that will usually come in the next day.50resto.com(late model restoration) are great guys,I live close enough that I just go there in person to get my stuff, the owner is a great guy too,if he see's me in there he will come out and talk to me,same with a bud.

My car would do something similar. Something would be banging around I could feel it thru the floor. It would feel like something was just swinging freely banging into something. Then one day it just stopped. It was good for a few days then came back, it stopped again after a day or so. Now it’s been good for 2 weeks. I can't figure out what’s wrong. I don't no if it’s the motor mounts, suspension or transmission.

Well on my bad mounts I could definately feel it through the floor, sometimes when braking, speed bumps, turning left or right it would sound like someone hit the frame with a hammer, had that somethings loose type sound to it...well I guess you could say something was kinda loose.....the MOTOR...:rlaugh: But it always sounded like it was coming from the passenger side. And both mounts were toast, and when I say toast I mean more than half the rubber was missing from both, passenger side being the worst.
