Balancer probs?

I was changing my oil in my stang and I looked at my balancer and saw a rubber piece moving out from under my balancer and was wondering if it was an issue.

I attached the pic.

Do not buy another OEM piece. I did, and ended up replacing that one. I also went with the Professional Products balancer. Mine is SFI approved though. Very nice piece.

I changed mine last month, its not that hard, but you have to take the fan and coolant resevoir out to get the HB puller on.

i got a oem replacement by pioneer so far it seems find, but i dont let the car hang at high rpms like i used to, only sees it when im racing now

What tools do I need to use for the replacement? Take the 3 bolts off and then use the Puller to get it off of the crank?

x2 on not getting a stock replacement. I cracked my second one. Ended up going with a Pioneer SFI balancer.

How do you get the Damper bolt off? The crank keeps turning so I can't get it off. I got the pulley ones off fine but the one in the center is really on there. Any tricks?

Put the car in 5th gear get a breaker bar and slide a pipe over handle and show that mofo who's boss seriously.

I put a breaker bar on it and ratched it down so the bar was laying on the garage floor. I then quickly bumped the starter and the bolt came loose. Its pretty easy, just make sure you've got that wrench turning the right way or it will go flying off.

I went threw 2 stock replacements in 2yrs (and about 4k miles tops), I went with a pioneer non-sfi and its been about 1-1.5 and no issues yet...but then again I realy dont drive it much.

Pioneer vote here either sfi or non-sfi.

I too also use the breaker bar and garage floor method...works great.

Does the bolt come off in a different direction? I'm doing it above the car and i've gone though two adapters connected to gather to make an extention, bad Idea, and a 1/2" extention. just twisted right off. if your looking at the front of the engine I'm pulling left, is this the right way?

Do I need to get an impact extention?

I just use a deep socket also no ext. on the breaker, or exh. off the socket.

I got the bolt off with a regular socket wrench and had the car in 5th. *flexes muscles*

1/2" socket, 1/2" short extension and 1/2" breaker are what I use. A cheater pipe over the breaker can add additional leverage.

When you go to remove the balancer, dont forget to remove the WASHER.

Question. Why do the balancer on our cars go bad so much. When mine went bad everyone I brought it to said it prolly wasnt the balancer cause they had NEVER seen one go bad. D.Hearne on this forum has a 30 year old balancer on his 351. He never had to change it. Just curious.
