I am not talking about buying an expensive multi-amp, 6-speaker, system. The original topic was about subs.

And YES the whole systems sound quality DEPENDS on the distortion % the deck has with volume. No matter how great your amps are (0.05% distortion and lower is good) if they are getting a crappy signal, the SQ suffers.

This doesn't mean you need a 500$ deck, just that a GOOD name brand (200$ area) such as Alpine, some clarions, ect.. then you'll be fine.

Thanks to everyone for the advice / pics.

I have already replaced the headunit with a quality one (Pioneer) and the speakers inside are all already changed and amped. I just feel that it is missing something without the deep bass. My Mountaineer has 2 tens and that is loud and I often turn them down. I listen to all kinds of music and appreciate the bass in all of them. My car is coming off the road for the winter soon so I will have time to truly play around with ideas.

I just have a 10" sony sub in the back ran by a 500watt amp in my convert.

But I made a custum box out of the sparetire department, This gives you a custom look with the speaker mounted in the floor of the truck, and you don't loose any trunk space.

I had 2 15" rockford HX2 (1200 watts a piece) with 2, 1000 watt fan cooled kennwood amp's in my 95 mustang.....that was loud as hell. took it all out and it raised the car about 2 inches. Now it just sits in my room cause I have no use for bass anymore. I was thinking about going with 1 or 2 10's with a small amp but I doubt I will

I went through a "I'm done with bass stage" too, but I miss it, not in a booming sense, but a complete sound of the music sense...

I don't mind giving up a little trunk space, but I do not want to have the whole trunk gone and add all that weight. That is why I was thinking about one speaker in a small box.

You can always remove the sub box at the track if you are concerned about the extra 10 lbs.or so.Enjoying the tunes with solid bass means more to me than a little extra weight but to each his own.

I agree with that, I just didnt want so much weight that I "feel it" when driving. I dont go to the track, my car is a street cruiser only. I also want the solid sound from the music. I was more concerned with taking up way too much space, etc and having not audible difference with the top down anyway. I was told to try installing with the subs firing down. I plan on building a box for one 10" and making it so that it will fire down and then taking it from there.
