I have a 03' cobra and just ordered a Bassani (off-road cat delete) x-pipe.I have read that it will trip the engine light as soon as you put these on . My question, is there a way to prevent this ? Does anyone make a O2 sensor bypass or a system that will prevent the check engine light from coming on ?

Also will this mess with my stock tune ? Has anyone put this pipe on their Cobra yet ? Will it create a rich or lean condition the computer will try to adjust for ?

Thanks for any info guys ....

2 choices to prevent the CEL from coming on. Either buy and install a set of MIL eliminators on your O2 sensors or have the O2 sensors shut off via a tune.

Before answering any questions concerning the effect this O/R X-pipe will have on your car... what other modifications have you got installed currently?

Right now the only thing the car has is a BBK cold air induction kit. Assuming Im going to need a custom tune after the exaust is put on ?

Well if you want to see the most out of your mods you really should get it tuned. What prompted you to purchase a mid-pipe before getting a cat-back? The cat-back will provide bigger gains than the X-pipe. Most people get the CB first, then an X or H.

I see your point , it might be better money spent replacing the cat back system before deleting the cats with a x-pipe.

Im looking at bassani still and have noticed the have a "quiet" muffler , a "street" muffler and a "racing" muffler here at my local shop. Bassani add's mentions dB levels on the street and race may get you noticed by the local coppers.

With so many different systems out what have you been the most impressed with ? I listend to a few and they all sound pretty good .Are prices pretty close on Magnaflow, Steeda , and others ? Have had flowmanter in the past for my LT-1 and hated the drone I got at 65-70mph with the cruise on. Is this a common theme among all aftermarket systems ?

Once again thanks for any advice ....

Cat back choices are wide and vary in price and sound. Most of the name brand CB's all produce roughly the same gains in HP/TQ except for the Flowmaster system. For some reason their CB system for the 03/04 Cobra is down in power compared to the Borla, Steeda, Magnaflow, SLP, and Bassani systems.

What it really boils down to is sound preference and how much you are willing to spend! The Bassani & Borla systems are a little more costly than the others. All the major CB's are made from stainless steel and they all produce great performance gains.

You can't really ask the people in a web forum which CB is best because the sound produced is so subjective to every persons ear. I personally prefer the Magnaflow sound/Quality/Price over the other brands, but I'm sure there are other owners out there that think the Bassani or Borla Stingers are a better choice. You'll have to look at your wallet and listen with your own ears then make your choice...

The Basanni "quiet" mufflers will only be quiet for a little while. Once you start shoving 400 hp + through them, they will open up and scream just like all the others.

I have had the Basanni, the Magnaflow and the SLP (currently) on my cars. They are all excellent choices. I have always looked at Flowmasters like a cheap excuse for an aftermarket exhaust. They are just noise pipes. The others offer volume but are tuned and sound like music to me.

I really like the way my SLP sounds, it is different than the others. Mags and Basanni are similar to each other but just as good.

PS. IMO the Borla exhaust is stupid looking. The swelled tips are a joke.

Omg !!!!

I'm getting the Magnaflow CatBacks....*zang* soon as my book is done I get nice little check...going right into my car. Oh you might want to do yourself a HUGE favor and pick up an MGW shifter! I did the swap in less then an hour....and MAN boy Howdie! It's awesome! Your driving experience will vastly improve with a high quality shifter!
