Bay Area help!?!?Gear installation

well i guess im gonna go with the abbot speedcal from APEX ... anywho... 1 last question! - Rearend specialties recommends that i change out the gear oil afer 500 miles which is the break in period.. so i guess my question is.. what kind of oil should be used and where can i get it done.. and also... i have the maintenance package and was wondering if they would be messing around with my rearend fluids anytime soon...and also... if ford happened to change out my fluid would it affect my 3.90's?..thanx in advance sorr about all these newb questions but this is my first time swapping gears

anyone ... i know thers is the tranny fluid...but i dont think thats what is swapped out right? ...i think its the transfer case? differential fluids? damn im a newb someone help me out hahaha

little metal shavings come off from the new ring and pinion, so they recommend you put in new fluid at 500 miles post gear change. You can have them do it if you don't mind driving down there again. I brought in my own fluid and they charged me like 30 bucks to do it. If you want to get it closer to EPA you can just go to kragen on el camino and buy some Mobile 1 75w-140 fluid.. but I bet it'd be cheaper if you just paid rear end specialties to do it and use their fluid (plus they need to re-silicone the rear diff cover, and they do a good job)... also don't forget to have the Ford Friction modifier put in

I got my gears put in last summer. Gear change process is exciting.. its like your car is brand new again and you have to be nice to it for a while, heh

My friend got his gears done at apex, they did a good job, I think it came to a little over 300 for the install, and oil. They wanted to charge another 300 for a chip, but he just got speedcal from Brothers

ok well im taking it to rearend specialites to have that done... thanx for all the help... one last question! i promise! haha ... i have already 500miles on the gears and i was just wonderin if i can finally rip thru gears? would that be safe or should i wait till i have changed out the fluids?

I was patient and i'd recommend you do the same. Probably wont' do anything to the ring and pinion. Remember if your speedo says you've gone 500 miles you haven't gone quite that far since you haven't gotten the speedcal yet i'm assuming

Let us know the results. 3.90's are a good choice.. I'm one of the few who thinks 4.10's put you at too high of rpm for the highway.
