BBK Headers...Chrome or Ceramic?

I've seen some posts here and there and most people favor the ceramic ones. Why is it? Is it just the look when new? Is it how they wear and look over some time? Under hood temps? I'm just trying to justify the extra $100 price tag. Thanks.

You could buy the cheaper ones and wrap em in black header wrap... It'll keep u/h temps down a bit and last for a long time, plus it looks bad ass...

So the ceramics do lower temps?

that and and they cool off a lot faster. you can practically turn the car off and less than five minutes later pull all the spark plugs.

Chrome are gonna discolor and turn blueish. Before selling them due to my turbo setup I had ceramic coated BBK LTs on my car for about 3 years. They held up pretty good and just had a little bit of surface rust on them in a couple spots that cleaned right up in a few minutes with some steel wool. That was with no winter driving. I'd say they are worth it.

I really like my CC E/L BBKs. They still look like the day I bought them. That was 3.5 years ago.

I bought chrome headers for my daughters toyota (granted they were pacesetter), but they started rusting as soon as I put them in the car, if it helps.

Looks like I'll get the ceramics. I'm not a cheap *** so I don't mind spending the money if it's worth it. You guys have reassured me.

I heard the gaskets that come with the headers aren't great. Any recommendations for gaskets? Thanks.

i run ceramic unequals. got them from brothers for a good price. be sure to get some better gaskets than what come with them though

+1 ....I put my bbk unequal ceramics on last summer and i think the passenger side already blew a gasket. but def. go ceramic they keep the engine bay cooler. chrome will look awesome at first but will be bluish gold eventually.

I'm ordering a set in a couple months, I'm thinking of going with the ceramic unequals. I just know the chrome ones are gonna rust too quickly for my liking.

My chrome ones turned blue with less than 20 minutes in the car, lol. But I went cheap intentionally. I had to have a nice set that would last me a year or two because I have better things in mind for later on. I had some problems with the stockers .... so I went with some BBK U/L chrome shorties.


My vote is for the Fel Pro 1415 gaskets with locking header bolts!

I have BBK equal length headers and yes they turn blue but no rust at all and going on 3 yrs. Here's a good question whats better Ceramic or Jet hot coating?? sorry to high jack.......

Bbk's ceramic coating blows! Been there/done that with my 1 5/8" longtubes and my 1 3/4" longtubes.
