you may have to remove the oil baffle on the passenger side cover

mustangs come factory with 1.6's. cheby's have 1.5's.

i had to remove the baffle from my factory valve cover and grind down on the part the baffle screws into to clear my rocker arms. but it's weird because i've heard of people running my EXACT same rocker arms with factory covers and not have to change a single thing about their valve covers. thicker valve cover gaskets help with clearance issues too. i wish i didn't have to remove the baffle, oil can now run up the filler neck to the vent hose that goes to my throttle body, bringing oil into my tb and intake which is a big . clearance issues vary from brand to brand as well. upgrading to 1.7's will increase your valve lift a bit. the formula to figure it out is to take your current cam lift, (factory is .444) and divide by current rocker ratio, 1.6. then multiply by new rocker ratio, 1.7.

so .444/1.6 x 1.7 = .471

mine are actually 1.72 so i have .477 of massive liftness.

TIME OUT!

I was just talking about this with my mechanic last night over a game of pool, and THIS is how he explained lift to me.

Two kinds of lift = "true lift" and "advertised lift"

True lift=lift on the cam lobe
Advertised lift=lift after rocker arm (advertised lift)

I thought you took the lift on the cam and multiplied it by the size of the rocker arm.

Example:

.330 (true lift) * 1.7 (rocker arm) = .561 (advertised lift)

that's not right. think about it. if stangs had only .330 lift from the factory (which is really low) and putting a set of 1.7 rockers on raised your lift to .561 (which is quite a bit for a small block), there'd be a lot of broken valves and valve springs, lots of scarred pistons. they don't affect your lift THAT much.

No no no

Those were EXAMPLE numbers. I wasn't implying that a stock Mustang camshaft has .330 lift.

yeah i know they were examples. but going by your method of multiplying the lift and the rocker ratio, putting a set of 1.7's on a stang with a stock cam would raise the lift to .754 when doing the math, you're trying to figure the difference between a 1.6 and a 1.7, which is .1. so to obtain the increased difference of .1, you have to cancel out the old ratio of 1.6 by dividing the lift by 1.6, then multiplying it by, again, the new rocker ratio, 1.7. on a factory .444 cam, for every tenth in your rocker arm ratio, you have .2775 lift.

So you're talking about finding the "difference" between stock and 1.7 rocker arms. I'm pretty sure the link that you sent me even says that if you have a cam lift of .300 on a Chevy which has 1.5 rockers stock, then your total lift is .450. That is the same formula I came up with originally.

reread my post above, i modified it a bit. stangs came stock with stamped 1.6 rockers. so its .444

hah i was actually about to ask you the specs on your cam. that's cool, keep us updated! i wish i had a budget that allowed a h/c/i swap. i can barely afford to put gas in it.

Ok....so what I've learned today.....

Best possible intake for the 5.0 is the Holley or Edelbrock. But for the money....Cobras and Trickflows do fine. I will indeed go with the Cobra.

Best possible roller rocker once I figure out my cam lift will probably be the Comp Pro Magnums or the Crane's, 1.7s either way.

That's what I needed to know.

Oh, and going by the links you sent me, a roller rocker swap ALONE apparently has the possibility of netting 25 hp. WOW! I knew there would be at least SOME gains, but I'm definitely NOT banking on 25 hp.

yeah you can net 25hp on a 600hp motor probably. more like 5-8ish on both yours and my car. of course, i have no before and after dyno sheets to prove this but most advertised hp gains, for any car part, from any manufacturer, are from being tested on big horse motors.

Excuse me? First of all, who the hell is even talking to you? In case you can't see, I'm in the middle of a conversation which is producing valuable information that's going to help me very soon. I search on this site ALL day long so don't tell me to do a search because that **** is getting played out. I'm asking a simple question of which rocker arm he prefers or if he has any suggestions on which way to go. If you don't have any input, then move on to the next thread smokey.

I was talking about the bbk intake which is what this thread was about to start with. When you make a thread on a site usually your talking to ALL the members which would mean your talking to me, plus I did give input, its junk meaning its a cheaply made product and doesnt make much power. Clearly you didnt search for the topic because there was many threads exactly like this (without the rocker arm questions) and basicly it got the same answer. Just a suggestion smokey

Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
