got a pair of BBK LongTubes 1 3/4, to replace my shorties. on the install do i have lift the engine up a bit or will they slide right in??? also anyone know where i can get a pair of gaskets for these headers? any info would be greatly appreciated!!
I'm considering the same thing, as I have bbk shorties right now. I have heard the install isn't very difficult but its one of those things where some people get the job done in a few hours with no problems and some end up with broken head bolts or bolts that dont want to come out, ect. One question I wanted to know is about the different size long tubes. Is there a big difference between 1 3/4 and 1 5/8? Maybe the 1 3/4 are more difficult to install?? Sorry I didn't answer your question too much, this is something I would like to know as well.
Oh, you're in for the ride of your life. BBK LT's are a great choice (Fitment, quality etc...), but they are no fun job, they WILL test your patience. Don't let this scare you though, they are WELL worth the effort, WELL WORTH IT. you could lift/pull the engine and kick, pull, pry, wrestle them in, but I noticed a much easier way:
Jack the car up (A decent height up, ALMOST as far as you can, but not that far), and place jacks on the frame rails underneath the car (About where the passengers feet would be). Remove the old exhaust. Loosen and remove the engine mount to frame nuts. Securley attatch a peice of wood (Short length of 2x4 will do fine) to your jack, and jack up the motor by the oil pan (about an ince or so, you may need to jack it up more). Slide the headers up from underneath the car and slip in the LT's. Take 2 exhaust bolts (per side) and install them at the ENDS of the header flanges. Drop the motor, put the motor mount bolts back in. Drop the gasket between the header and heads, then install the rest of the header bolts and tighten the bolts down (Lower the car if you need to). Install the Hpipe, and have fun.
I have the same type question regarding this, cause Im installing longtubes on my 90 GT but motor is already out being built, should they be installed bolted to block and go in with engine? Not sure if theyll clear, cause I do have the stock K memeber>>>>>> Also wanting to know if the MAC HTS coated long tubes are worth a damn???? Ive seen pics of coating flaking off soon. All input welcome
I got mine in without jacking the engine up. I pulled the starter on passenger side and disconnected the rag joint on the steering shaft on the drivers side and slid them both in. With those two things done it was pretty easy.
