BBK vs FRPP shorty headers

I had both a set of FRPP headers and BBK shorty headers.. Actually the workmanship on the BBKs was better -- a lot less welding slag in the port-to-flange mating area. Plus where the primary tubes were mated better to the collector. Also, the flanges on the BBKs were thicker...

The only advantage the FRPP headers had over the BBKs were that they were made of stainless steel. They should last a lot longer.

It could have just been a bad set of FRPP headers -- I don't know. But based on my experience I would chose the BBK over the FRPP. But I ended up returning both of them and went with a set of MAC longtube headers. And believe it not -- the MACs were put together better at the collectors and flanges than either header.

BBk are OK. I took mine back because of welding flash in the stud holes. The stud would not screw in. You would think they would clean them up before shipping but

I went with the FRPP Shorties. No problems at all!

You know what's funny, fairway ford, yorba linda, ca at the sport and rv performance section (frpp section) they adamentaly swear against the frpp headers, saying they are poorly made junk. They won't stock them, and EVERY time I've called, or my brother, or friends inquiring, they say to EVERYONE, oh those are junk, get the bassasani headers. I got pissed off at them one day, and asked what the hell is with that, and they simply said that a majority of the frpp headers they pulled straight out of the box were junk and had to be sent back for one reason or another, bad welds, etc. Very strange. I've ALWAYS heard the frpp headers were some of the best, that's why I ordered them

Don't ever buy a header with individual header flanges like the MAC headers have. Went in the first time fine, but the next time I needed a breaker bar and a friend to pull on it to line up the header bolt holes while I tried to put the bolts in. grrrrrrrr...... The heating and cooling caused them to distort.

My next headers will most likely be BBK or FRPP. One piece flange.

Hmmmm to defend my "exhaust guy"=Jimmy LaRocca (you guys know him right? ), he has one price for FRPP shorties and all others with one piece flange and like double that for any garbage that MAC makes, since they "don't fit, new, or old, or even and they are garbage" They do make good copper header gaskets, 1 year no leaks .

1.) Why did you need to drop a name? Do you feel special because you bought from a well known Mustang guy?

2.) It's not an attack on MAC, it's the truth. I known at least 5 guys with the same experience I had.

3.) Copper gaskets are band aid fix to bigger problem. Namely, poorly made headers.

Quality headers don't leak. Sorry to highjack the thread for a bit.

But I still say either FRPP or BBk is good. I'd probably buy the BBK. My brother has BBK long tubes on a V8 Ranger he's building and they are nice quality.

I picked up a set of motorsport headers a few years ago for $100, they are not the coated headers but neverless I couldn't pass up the deal. The fit perfect and hope when I remove them they fit just as good going back on. The only thing I dislike about them is that they have a coating of surface rust on them
