Beers Of Stangnet

The liquor store in the shopping center just up the street from my house recently moved into a bigger space a few doors over and with the bigger space comes an expanded alcohol selection, including beer. They must've easily doubled their beer offerings, primarily on the side of local/micro/craft brews. The "big name" beers didn't really change any but it sure seems like they've added a good bit of beers from breweries around the region, expanded on some of the regional offerings, and even gotten some from other parts of the country too.

Tonight I'm trying this:

"Staring At The Sun" from Oliver Brewing in Baltimore. It's a Belgium Wheat Ale, as you can see on the can and it's got the cloudiness I'd expect from a wheat. What I didn't expect is the slight bitterness to it...I can't say I've ever had a bitter wheat beer before; almost like there's a bit of IPA in this. Aside from the bitterness, the flavor is pretty good...fairly typical of a wheat.

The only other beer I've had since my previous post was a Yuengling on Saturday night at a concert. Damn 24-ounce can cost almost $13 at the friggin' venue...what a rip off. I could buy two of their 6-packs for that price.

Picked up a 6-pack of this today; I was intrigued by the grapefruit/passion fruit flavor that's advertised in this (see the earlier post in here regarding the grapefruit flavored beer). This brew has only a hint of those fruit flavorings; barely noticeable going down, but in the aftertaste you can pick up more on the grapefruit. Very, very subtle on the fruit flavoring.

Yet another wheat ale...this time with orange and lemon peel added. It doesn't have a major cloudiness to it, but you can't see right through it either. Kind of a translucent appearance really. I'm picking up on a light citrus flavor which takes away just a bit from the plain wheat aspect of this beer (that is not intended to be a knock against it, merely my observation).

I like Killian's Irish Red (one left in the fridge, in fact), I'll have to look for it. :)

Just relaxing a bit with some Michelob Amber Bock. Haven't seen any around here for a while, and found some at the store this morning.
