Bellhousing

It was from a automatic Thunderbird. Not sure what year, but it has the large bellhousing that was attached to a 351. The trans was rebuilt. Everything I have bought is for a 157tooth

Is the main case on the transmission cast iron or aluminum ? If it's cast iron, then, no you're stuck with the 164 tooth bell, as that would be an FMX transmission. If the case is aluminum, then, yes, there's a 157 tooth bell out there as you'll have a C-4 trans. Many of them, in fact. There was even a 147 tooth version in the Stang II's.

If the bellhousing to main case bolts are in the converter area then it is a C-4.If the bellhousing bolts are outside of the bellhousing with the heads pointing towards the rear of the transmission then it is an FMX as an FMX bellhousing bolts on from the outside. The case fill C-4's were available with the 157 tooth ,164 tooth and Mustang II bellhousings but if you have a pan fill C-4 you are stuck with the 164 tooth size unless there is an aftermarket one available.

Anybody out there got one. I need one ASAP. None on ebay
Go back on ebaymotors, there type in the " search"----- Ford Bellhousing. There's a guy there that has many C-4 bells for sale, and he "seems" to sound like he knows his ****. Email him and see what C-4 Bell you need and if he's got one. His feeback rating is 100%, so I would assume that he's good to deal with. :nice:

If the bellhousing bolts directly to the case and the front pump bolts in with a separate cirlce of bolts then you have the truck C-4. If that is the case I have only seen bellhousings for 164 tooth flywheels with this tranny.....that doesn't mean that a 157 tooth one does not exist but if they do it is not to my knowledge.

If the bellhousing bolts also secure the front pump then yes there are both 157 and 164 toothed bellhousings available.

Someone send me this info. It is true and accurate.

"Even though it is pan fil,any 157T bell will bolt up except you use the pump bolts to fit it instead of the outer bolts on the larger case. You have to use longer pump bolts though to suit the extra thickness of the bellhousing.

That is your call. I would not do it.
