This is common, get a Gator Belt and it will go away for a while. Keep old belt in trunk for emergencies.

if you got over 40/50k on the car, I'd say the belt tensioner is going south. get a new one.

I also agree that it may be the tesioner. I have not looked at mine, but I know the tesioner on my old 5.0 had an indicator arrow right on it and you could tell if it was in proper range. May want to take a look.

well I don't see a problem buying the belt aftermarket, but I think everyone knows my thoughts on parts stores/aftermarket "anything"crapola its never the same quality as OEM, you get what you pay-for

You really probably just need the idler pulley and not the entire tensioner assembly. You should remove the belt and test the "springiness" of your tensioner. Then spin the pully and see if it spins freely. The pully is $15 at AutoZone but you should ideally get it at the Ford Parts Counter as Randy said.

no it's tensioner, get the FORD oem replacement, if memoires serves correctly it's a steel unit, the sotck one on the car is cheaper metal, that's why it goes out.

Randy knows his stuff, listen to him

i took the belt off last night. spun the tensioner pulley and the idler pulley and the both spun nice and freely, no noise. reinstalled the belt and it still sqeeked a little bit last night. today, all day so far, it hasnt squeaked at all......

if it starts up again, i'll go to my local ford dealer and pick up the tensioner for about $52 with tax and the gator belt from autozone for $25. hopefully it doesnt act up though.

just a note: you can't hand spin the pulley to 6000 rpms
