belt is slipping

I also agree that it may be the tesioner. I have not looked at mine, but I know the tesioner on my old 5.0 had an indicator arrow right on it and you could tell if it was in proper range. May want to take a look.

i can pick up an assembely for $37.99 and the gatorback belt for $25.99 at autozone today.

any problems with getting it at autozone?

well I don't see a problem buying the belt aftermarket, but I think everyone knows my thoughts on parts stores/aftermarket "anything"crapola its never the same quality as OEM, you get what you pay-for:banana:

You really probably just need the idler pulley and not the entire tensioner assembly. You should remove the belt and test the "springiness" of your tensioner. Then spin the pully and see if it spins freely. The pully is $15 at AutoZone but you should ideally get it at the Ford Parts Counter as Randy said.

i took the belt off last night. spun the tensioner pulley and the idler pulley and the both spun nice and freely, no noise. reinstalled the belt and it still sqeeked a little bit last night. today, all day so far, it hasnt squeaked at all......

if it starts up again, i'll go to my local ford dealer and pick up the tensioner for about $52 with tax and the gator belt from autozone for $25. hopefully it doesnt act up though.
