Best adjustable clutch kit?

Hey guys. I just put in a new FRPP heavy duty clutch. It works great, but my stock clutch cable is shot. It's so stretched that the quadrant is completely ratcheted and the clutch can barely be disengaged. The thing is fully hooked up at about 1/2" off the floor. I want to get an adjustable clutch cable setup, but I can't decide on one. I am leaning toward the UPR kit with the triple pickup, firewall adjuster, and heavy duty cable. It's cheaper than the BBK kit that summit sells, and the summit and FRPP ones don't have firewall adjusters in the kits and are as expensive as the UPR kit. If anyone knows of one that's better than the other, or the quality of the UPR one, please let me know.

I hated my Steeda setup- sold it too a fellow Stangnetter who hasn't complained yet. If you're interested in the UPR setup, I have the Extreme up for sale (-cable... I don't sell used cables). It wasn't bad, but I've got the 3 peice Maximum Motorsports kit :nice: now and don't need the UPR stuff anymore. While I think every billet quadrant other than the MM and FRPP ones all have inherent problems, I will say that the quality on the UPR Extreme firewall adjuster is second to none, and I've tried most of them, and seen them all. I would still be using it, but only the MM one will work with the MM cable :(

I had the same problem when I installed the FRPP heavy duty clutch. Put on the FRPP cable and quadrant and am happy. Does the job great with the exception of having to get up under the car to adjust it. Steeda also just sells a firewall adjuster...probably gonna invest in that soon, so I won't have to be crawling up under the car for adjustments. Haven't tried any others, just thought i'd let ya know how I felt about the FRPP kit.

What kind of symptoms are you having? I believe my cable may be shot and I was just wondering what is happening to yours.

i think my cable may be gone too, as well as some other things. i put in a new spec stage 1 clutch and it grabs right off the floor. then i have to floor the clutch pedal to get it in gear sometimes. ive tried lifting the pedal and pushing it down to adjust but it doesnt help. is it my cable? this may be off topic but maybe one you guys might know. i changed the t/o bearing retainer to a steel one. it didnt need a shim and i torqued it down. there was no endplay in the shaft and i greased up the the outer shaft part of the retainer where the t/o bearing slides on and greased up the t/o bearing retainer itself. so my problem is im still getting the rrrr rrrrrrr noise. it goes away when i step on the clutch but i thought a new retainer and t/o bearing would make that noise go away. ur help is much appreciated thanks.

I have the same noise too. I was told by Black93SVT that it is probably the clutch cable and quadrant. He said the clutch cable might be stretched out so far that it isn't disengaging the whole way. I will be changing to the steeda kit pretty soon.

I have had my BBK for over 10 years and adjusted my clutch only once so the firewall adjuster feature is not so critical for me. The BBK unit sold for about $100 back then and I had them install it for another $100! It works great and never gave me grief! My stock plastic pathetic self adjusting quadrant was crap when I bought my care when it was 5 years old comming of lease. BTW still have the original clutch after 117,000 miles.

Well, I just put on a new stock cable, and as soon as I stepped on the pedal.....crack crack crack. The stock quadrant stripped out on me. I just ordered a Summit adjustable setup to be delivered overnight, but it still sucks that my car is down again! I wanted to order the BBK kit with the FWA, but it was too expensive so I got the summit one. At this point, as long as it works, I'll be happy. I'll get a FWA later.

I bought a complete Hays, kit and installed it myself. (Bit of a pain though) Adjusted it too were I liked it the first time and havn't had to change it since and it's been two years. Nice kit, definetly not the most popular kit out there though. It had just been released when I bought it. I'd recomend it to anyone. As for BBK I have heard a lot of people complain about them, so I don't know if I would go with a BBK. I have heard that Granateli makes a nice kit though. Is this true???

You do realize that you can't use the stock cable with an aftermarket quadrant unless you have a firewall adjuster.........no FWA, you need an adjustable cable.

I ordered the Summit adjustable clutch cable kit, with the adj. cable and metal quadrant. I'll keep the stock cable for later, when I get a FWA. I'm probably going to get one of the nice UPR ones with the dual locking ring.

:nice: Just checking..... If it doesn't rain Saturday, I'm going to install my Maximum Motorsports quad/fwa/cable kit. :banana:

87pony- Check your preload on the clutch. If its too loose there is a slight chance that sound your are experiencing may go away, especially if it goes away when you apply slight pressure to the clutch pedal.
