I'm looking for ideas/suggestions for an automatic tranny that will work well in my 68 coupe. The engine going in is a 351 making ~325 hp. The car will be an occasional driver, w/ a possible rare dragstrip run. TIA.

I am pushing about 400hp with a C4. I have seen 700hp Fastbacks running C4's. Should be fine!

Thanks for the input, crane. I was hoping to hear that as I have a C4 available. Going from a 302 to 351, will a C4 need any modifications? I do intend a rebuild before installation.

Another vote for a C4. Had one behind a 408 in a fox. Never gave me any problems.

I'd run a C-4, but wanted to let you know a TH400 will fit. I couldn't find anyone with one in a 65-66 when I was trying to decide. Mu current build will be pushing the limits of a C4 and I know I will upgrade again at some point, so I made the jump to the TH400.

the sky is the limit depending on your budget. you can opt for a nice C4, all the way up to a modified 700r4(i think) that has six forward gears(you only need something like $7000 for one.). i would stick with a C4 or a built up AOD.

depending on your rear gear, now would be the time to look into an O/D trans. They are really a HUGE improvement over any three speed.

Thanks again everyone for the input . . . it's invaluable to me. The rear will be 3.73

Depending on available cash you could get a gear vendors OD unit. I'm not a fan of the AOD as first gear is too high for my liking. But figure in the cost of the gear vendors unit you could possibly get a lower 1st gear for the AOD for less.

My vote is a C4 from www.dynamicracingtrans.com

That's what I'm running.
