Best cam bang for the buck?

Im looking for a more aggresive cam than the E-cam, I dont mind some rough idle, heads and intake are getting ported now and i wanna make some more power, but nothing to extreme, whats the best bang for the buck since everyone is saying alphabet cams are outdated?>

Trick Flow stage 1 is a good bang for the buck but you will probably only get about 10 hp over the e-303. It has a really nice lope... I wish I still had mine in. Other than that put your money towards a custom grind cam. Only true way to maximize your setup.

true the custom grind. but otherwise the comp xtreme energy series is very popular. i run the XE274hr and i kinda like it. now i wish i would have gone with the 282. if u are using the stuff in your sig, i would at least go with the XE274hr or trick flow stage 2, almost the same thing. it idles nice and smoth. since i have tail pipes, the car sounds fairly stock, until you romp on it.

My vote is the Trick Flow series cams they are price right from Summit Racing. Very good value. I have the TFS stage 1 on my car with 1.7 rockers. I thought of going with the TFS stage 2 cam when I had the 1.6 rockers, but it is less streetable in my opinion.

I just put in TFS stage 1, its cheap and it has a nice sounding idle and it isn't tough to drive in traffic.

Will the TFS stage 1 and 1.7 rockers work in a stock engine or will I have clearence issues.

I am not sure about 1.7 but the 1.6 is just fine.

I have 1.6 rockers, sorry i am not sure.

I run the F303 with 1.7 and stock bottom end, Rev limiter is at 7k, anyway it runs great, nice idle and not hard to drive at all. It really sounds good

No one said the X cam..............maybe too much for my setup?
With that much lift would it even fit without modification to the pistons....the heads I have are 2.02 intake valve....

The TFS Stage 2 requires 9:5:1 compression. Im not sure but I think I only have 9:0:1

whats the diff between 1.6 and 1.7 performance wise? does it hurt to get 1.6 instead of 1.7?

but you wouldnt really feel the difference unless there was some kind of head or intake work.

no one knows if you can run 1.7 rockers and a tfs stage one?? I am interested in this one too (since I have 1.72 rockers waiting to go on)

Trick Flow Stage 1 is a mere $140 plus shipping from Summit. It has good street manners too. As far as clearance, you could check the clearance you have with your existing cam using and temporarily bolting (not torquing) on the heads (and gasket) you will use. Place putty or play doh on piston before bolting on head and gasket. Then turn the crank a couple of times, remove the head and check thickness/clearance.

My pistons are between 3-5 thousandths above deck, using a .39 inch gasket and Winsdor Jr. heads cut .020 (1.94 intake /1.60 exhaust), I surprisingly still have lots of clearance. I run 1.6 rockers and stage 1 cam (.499/.512 lift).

I actually first purchased the Stage 2 cam, but chickened out and sent it back for the Stage 1 and I am glad I did as the Stage 1 makes good vacuum (i.e. no problem with power brakes) and has an impressive power band. I took one buddy for a ride and his comment was "Whoa! this is one stout 351 !" I informed him that it is just a little 302.
