Best clutch for ~300rwhp

I would go with a Tyco Type R triple disk carbon fiber 3 inch clutch, and the matching titanium/carbon fiber flywheel.

j/k... lol...... I'd go for a Spec Stage 1... FMS Heavy Duty or King Cobra.. Centerforce DF... Whichever will be fine.

I would perhaps step it up a little from what Nick might do, with something like a Star stg 2.

Nick, CF is unnecessary in a flywheel till you hit ~450 HP. :D

FMS HD or king cobra if your just gonna drive it and race it once in a while. Mcleod dual friction if your gonna race it, launch it hard and drive it.

Why these clutches? i have heard only good things about the Spec clutches any objections?

The 3 clutches I listed would be the only uses you'd find inside my bellhousing :D

I ran a FMS HD for 5 years and over 50k miles. It was great. I daily drove it, street raced it, track raced it and sprayed nitrous on it. Clutch was great! I mde 300rwhp on motor. The king cobra would be great too but with a softer pedal feel. I ran a king cobra for a short while as well. Now I am building a stroker and need something stronger but still a good pedal feel and not hard hitting. Something that'll handle a low 11/high 10 capable car. That would be the mcleod dual friction disk with a King cobra pressure plate.

I have a "300rwhp" car and the King Cobra wasn't up for a lot of abuse...but it was a great daily driver clutch...

I have sense upgraded to a CF Stage II clutch which has a softer pedal effort and grabs harder...

I want something were i can do alot of launches without worrying about burning the clutch out !

I'm pretty confident (not just because I have it) but the CF Stage II I have (60% more holding power) will handle what you want...the King Cobra holds 30% more over stock. The CF holds more...and has a lighter pedal feel and is quite slippable.

The Spec Stage III will be WAY overkill...that isn't a clutch you want...

spec stage 2

i went with a stage 2 for my 347. loved the pedal effort and it grabs like no other. I used to have CF, chattered my brain right out of my ear.

My wife has sinced poured my brain back into my head, and I pulled the CF out put it up on ebay and got a spec. can't remember the website I got it off of though. I want to say it was perks performance or something performance. good prices.

good luck

Spec stage 1, good on the street, engages just hard enough, and doesnt chatter. Stage 2 will shock the crap outta the drivetrain if you ask it to, but still doesnt chatter and works well.

King Cobra's overheat if you powershift or drive/launch hard repeatedly.
Centerforces work great but they do chatter and dont last all that long.
I'm running a centerforce at the moment. I've had a lot of clutches in my car and so far nothing compares to the Spec Stage 2....
