The best cold air intake is the one you build yourself. Online retailers like siliconeintakes.com sell everything you need to make it happen, and you can usually do it for a fraction of the price of what a "kit" costs.

The OEM airbox "IS" cold air and is better than most aftermarket kits when the air-silencer is removed. New plumbing between the stock airbox and the throttle body is all that is necessary until you start moving a LOT more air. More air than what it required for any HCI car that I've ever seen.

If you're going for looks well... that's a different story. I like the ceramic coated Anderson Ford Motorsport stuff and they will support just about anything you can shoehorn beneath the hood of a Fox. Like Nik said though... Pricey.

I made mine out of turbo piping from a 7.3 and miscellaneous clamps and couplers from O'reilly's. I really need to make a heat shield, though. So I won't get too much hot air off the fan going into the filter.

That was before I put the filter and MAF on. The pipe already had PERFECT bends, but sadly I was too lazy to take the inner fender out and actually put the filter in there so I just cut it off short and here's how it looks

With filter and the couplers I MAY have $30 in it. And IIRC, the filter alone cost like $21 or so.

I think that test for HP gains that someone put in an excel worksheet showed 5 HP gain when silencers were removed.

Made mine w/ electrical conduit. But yeah CAI's are mostly just for looks. I wouldn't pay $200 or whatever for one that's for sure
