Best company for shortblocks?

Ive been looking into a new shortblock for my car, and I want to buy from a reputable company, but not sure which companies those would be. I was looking at DSS, and a few others, but I dont know how good their stuff is. Tell me what you know.

Question 2- I was looking at a 331 shortblock from DSS, and it said it was capable of making more than 600 hp, but suggests that you limit it to 350 hp. Why so low? From what ive seen, a stock bottom end can take alot more than 350 hp. I was thinking maybe they just said that so you would buy their "bullet" block that costs a grand more.

stock bottom end can take about 400hp then its questionable, look into Coast High Performance, or there is a guy on here called Rick91GT im sure he'll check in and he builds short blocks

Dss is a good company and makes a lot of things in-house. You need to do some researching on everything from what you have to what you need, limits, potential, and so on. A 5.0 is only a light-duty block so power should be limited to about 400-500 you can do a little more though with a main cap girdle and a lifter valley girdle but I woule still be a little leary pushing past 450.

I would recomend haveing someone build it for you, these guys from the NMRA (rick) have dealt with these engines for a long time an know so many little things that make a big diff. When your tooth hurts you dont go to a copier salesman, Go with someone that has 5.0 in thier blood they wont fail you.

well if you dont go through rick (who has taken time to answer some of my questions in threads/pm's, very nice and knowledgable guy. i would have gone through him if i had known more about him before purchasing my shortblock)

i got my 331 shortblock from chp. they built it for me fast. everything was perfect on it, except one of the threads was pretty rough for the oil pan bolts. cleaned it up and havent had any problems with it.

i cant say the same for the dss shortblock i had. there has been a raised amount of complaints about them lately it seems.

ive heard mixed things about both dss and chp in the research i did. ive never heard a bad thing about a motor from rick.

I would check into Rick's engines as well. Not because of some of the pitching by a couple guys that have his engines but from his printed knowledge and attitude I get from him.

Places like dss, chp, etc...are mass producing engines and the more that go out to customers the more likely the probability of problems being posted. I'm certain they are reliable as well.

Good Luck with the 331...that is my daily driven choice.

i got mine from the enigne factory
they do great work im very happy with my engine you can get complete turn key engines for what ever you want done engine factory.com or something like that
