For ET Streets, pour some dish soap inside the tire before mounting it...rub it all over the inside of the tire. Mount it without tubes. This will help prevent the rubber from letting air pass through it. It's a natural rubber which is why it leaks air, but the soap helps to fill the pores and slows down leaking. The tubes add considerable weight to the tires. Just keep an eye on tire pressure and hit the gas station air stations when you need to.

ive had nitto 555r's since the august of 07. i think i put 10, 000 miles on them and their finally not legal. their great in the rain and hook amazing. i can do 2.5k dumps on the street in the summer and i just go. no spin. i planning on getting another set to replace them to be legal and then save these ones for the track. ive never used the other ones but i definitley feel these are a great tires.

I have the mt on my 94 cobra and my best time was 11.83 with a 1.72 60ft def well worth the money and if you want a nice set of street tire i had a pair of toyo r888s they did well for my i enjoyed them and good life never ran them at the track but on the streets lasted me 3 years and i dont baby my car by any means

Well if you think that nitto`s or bfg`s are as good as mt`s then post up your 60 ft. times.
You will find the high hp cars are on mt`s, to me its not a matter of preference or each to his/her own when it comes to traction at the strip.

I've been 1.4x on MT et street radials.... 275/60/15's. Don't expect to be cutting wild 60' by just putting some tires on the back, a lot of it has to do with suspension. I have cut a 1.58 60' on some firestone indy 500 street tires and when I switched to radials the 60' didn't change much. After some pinion angle and IC adjustment that's where I knocked anoter .1 off. All I'm getting at is don't expect miracles by putting nice tires on there. I've driven my MT's in the rain also, don't drive like a dbag and you won't wreck.....

i want something wider for my back tires than 255's. Do they make anything wider for 16inch rim? a street slick. i thought i saw one was a 275.. will they fit on a stock suspension? i want to go wide as possible.. HELPPP

I have ran a few sets of Nittos for a total of 30-33,000 miles.

I never got more than 11,000 miles (daily driver) on a rear set.

Nittos get dangerous as the tire tread depletes in the rain.

Old thread but figured since its got a lot of useful information in it i would ask another question.
I'm thinking about getting some nitto dr's 245/50r16 to replace my worn out tires. Car is a pretty much stock 88gt with ponies. I dont have too much of a traction issue due to it being stock with 2.73s, but want to take it to the local 1/8th mile track and was hoping to beable to get some traction off the line.

I'm pretty much set on these tires due to cost / tread life. What im looking for is any tips to get them to hook up. Lower psi to around 15? should i heat them up? If so how much. Would i beable to launch at say 2k rpm? Thanks for any input.

Never been to the track and kinda makes me nervous. Don't want to look like too much of an idiot when the light turns green.

It’s going to be a chore with those 2.73’s…but it’s do-able. Keep the pressure at 18+psi and drive around the water box (backing in to it). Proceed with a nice 5-7 second long smokey burnout….rolling out of it afterwards until you feel the tires start to grab. Launching is going to be trial and error…but it’s going to require some serious clutch slippage. Start at 3000rpm slipping the clutch and work your way up/down from there.
