Best LEGAL mid-pipe in Cali

Unfortunately, I think the only legal mid-pipe in Cali is the factory one. Even with a catted mid-pipe, you would fail visual (if they checked) because the factory H-pipe has 6 cats I believe, and the aftermarket ones come with only 2.

I believe you are correct, except the number of cats. I believe that with the 99+ cars they went to a 4-cat H (prior to that it was 6). I may be wrong about the exact crossover point, but I know my car has 4 -- and they used to have 6.decoy562 said:

some 99+ H's have 6...some 2. what about the magnaflow X does that have that carb/ 50 state legal thing? im just throwin it out there im not sure.

I have been dealing with the CA CARB BS for some time now. The Magnaflow will pass the sniffer but fail visual (per magna rep) There is NO LEGAL mid pipe for CA sorry to say. I would just toss an o/r pipe and keep the old set up for smog time. Just remember you need to have the factory stuff on for a few hundred miles or you'll fail due to inconclusive data. If you know a smog "friendly" shop, go with the magnaflow catted X. I'm STILL up in the air about either a Bassani o/r X or Magnaflow catted X. I may never decidemike2858 said:

Your car is pre 98 so you didn't have as intense of a smog check as required with OBDII equiped vehicles. However, congratulations!

Same restriction is there due to the 423543255385243 cats on our cars. The whole point of a mid pipe change is for performance and sound. I don't think either are accomplished by that pipe. if someone sends me one i'll dyno it on my stock exhaust and post up the results but in all honesty what you said is exactly right, the problem lies with the cats and something that small simply cannot have any appreciable effect on either sound or power.

Let's talk about ricers and their stickers! Coming home today on the freway, this idiot in a white civic with every fricken sticker and every piece of body kit he could fit tried to act hot for his chick. I swear, the car was white, the hood was black and was like 10 inches higher than stock with two big scoops on it, and blue ground effect kit all the way around. Anyhow, I'm cruising about 80 in the fast lane and he rides up on my ass so I let off the gas and he keeps on my ass. So I took the OD off (automatic) to slow down more. I guess he thought I wanted to race cuz my exhaust got a bit louder when I flipped off the OD. So he pulls up next to me and starts reving. I start laughing, he rolls down his window and starts tossing his hand in the air so I rolled down my window and was like you go and I'll try and keep up. So he rolls his window up and says something to his girlfriend. I'm sure it was something along the lines of watch me smoke this guy. So he punches it and swerves if front of me. So I punched it and pulled into the middle lane and rolled my window down and was like, whenever your ready.....He has this serious look on his face while his chick is looking at me and I just boned the hell out. I got up to about 120 and let up, needless to say he didn't try to catch back up to me. I think he's at home now adding some more stickers.
