I don't know all the terms but I've heard from some points are bad and some say points are good so what's the deal with distributors?

The best type: ones with a cap, rotor and PIP.

Do you mean what brand?

Points is a type of distributor-based ignition that has pretty much dissappeared. Pretty much only some lawnmowers and other equipment like that have them still.

i've been pleased with my msd billet distributor. i made some mods to my 115k 90 stang and made 308rwhp/330tq with a miss at 4800rpm. the msd billet ditributor fixed my issue.

hope this helps.

Most distrubtors on the market these days are hard to compare. Most will have a preference due to a brand they just like, but it's hard to really pick one that operates that much more better than the other one. Just boils down to certain if any features you like and what suits your needs.

I would say to stick with the stock ignition system unless you have a good performance reason to make a change. Brand loyalty is pretty high but the two biggest sellers is MSD and Crane. If you do go with a high perfromance ignition setup go all the way not just replace a coil or distributor or an ignition box. Treat it like a system dont go piecemeal.
