I am pretty sure the 1985 GT 5-SPEED had an 8.8 in it, for a drag car get any 8X-93 4 or 6 cyl. car most the time there stright and cheep and you can find them in good shape sometimes with good paint and to do it cheep you can get C-4 AND 8.8 at junk yards pretty cheep. gut car i mean gut it. find a used 5.0 and go
NO the 85's do not have the 8.8 rear, as others said, not until 86 did they come with the 8.8. As for the original question though, notches are lighter stock but any style can be made to perform. Money and knowledge, choosing parts that get the most out of each other and weight reduction are big factors. There are fast cars of all years and styles so I would get whatever style you liked or budget allowed and go from there. Good luck.:canada:

If you are asking me where I am from, Hamilton Ontario. As for my opinion on those choices, if it were for the street, the GT but since it is not and you are going to upgrade anyway, take a cheap one with a good body. But the older GT 4 eye is a much "cooler" car than a aero notch, but that is just my opinion and not the issue here anyhow. Again good luck.
