Man, what an *******...this morning at school I decided to go a little crazy since there was some snow on the ground. After some donuts and 360's in my 89 GT, I decided to drop it in reverse. Boy what a freakin mistake that was. After throttling the thing I dropped the clutch in reverse, and everything went to hell, shaking, grinding...the whole ****load. Now whenever I try to move in reverse the car shakes like mad. I can get into the gear fine, but when I try to actually reverse, I get the problem. Whats going on???? Please for the love of Jesus H. Christ help me!!! :bang:

Umm, You're stupid... Grow up or trade you stang for a civic rice boy. Stangers don't drop the tranny into reverse and drop the clutch.

Pull your tranny and take it apart and then glue the borken parts to your dash as a reminder to your stupidity. If it moves forward expect the broken parts to chew the rest of the tranny up and possibly lock the rear. In other words roll back it home, don't drive it.

OUCH. Tell us how you really, feel. Dont hold anything back this time.

I dont think reverse has any synchros. So that's probably the promblem. Though not to sure why its shaking?

Hey at least the other gears work. I shifted hard into 5th the one day and lost every gear except 4th. That really sucked. Drove an hour home in 4th gear dumping the clutch at every stop sign.

Well, thanks to all the *******s who told me not to do that, because obviously I already know I shouldn't have. Still, that helps me none in determining what the hell the problem is. Anyone besides the stupid morons on this board that criticize you for making a mistake have any help??

Sell the car,it's not for you. :bang:

i wouldnt call us stupid morons, your showing your lack of knowledge... it sounds like you stripped your reverse gear, to the point where it is barely grabing, you probably ripped all the teeth off of the gear, time to rebuild the tranny.... metal shavings in tranny will mess up other things, get caught in gears, seize them, strip them...

Guy with 10 posts, calling a guy with 4000+ posts a moron.... Dude, you did something very stupid, dont expect to not get roasted on, atleast he gave you some advice on what not to do, dont try and drive it, you may **** up rest of the tranny..

Ummm actually if the "stupid morons" who criticized you in the previous posts were actually "stupid morons," then they too would have no teeth on their reverse gear. I mean come on dude, its pretty much COMMON sense not to drop the clutch in reverse on any 5spd. What the hell were you thinking?!!?!!?!? Either do your stang a favor and sell it to a more caring owner, or do yourself a favor and get an AOD or something... Geeez.. I'm sorry but that was just plain stupid on your part. I don't blame the other guys at all for calling you stupid, because it was indeed the most stupid thing (that I can think of) you could possibly do to a mustang. If thats how you like to treat a car, then IMO, you should drive something else. If you really do realize how incredibly stupid you were, then simply buy a new T-5z or whatever. Be more carefull in the future dude. Because if you ever do something like this again, then I don't think you should be allowed to drive at all.

BTW, you said you don't know what the problem is? How blatant can it be??????? YOU NEED A NEW TRANSMITION. I hate to dissapoint you, but this isn't something you can kiss and make better. You really f u cked up... big time. Might as well install a better clutch while your at it, because you probably roasted it as well. Anyone up for some fried clutch? Taste just like chicken!!! :rlaugh:

Give him a break, jeez.

OK so he made a mistake.

Now, drop the tranny, open it up if you are brave enough and fix it. If not, time to buy a rebuilt/used/upgraded one.

We all started out new and didnt know certain things. Some learn the easy way by reading and "common sense" and others learn the hard way, like in your situation.

ya what's up? 360 and burn out's are fine and s#it but dumpinmg it in reverse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so how ever fast you were going forward when you dumped it in reverse that gear took all that force to stop it. Drive much? and one with comon sence will know you cant do that!!! so my guess is you ripped all the teeth off that gear wheel. so park away from people unless u like to push.

Kurtis, Kurtis, Kurtis. So young, so foolish. You shoulda' been in class instead of showing off and blowing your tranny. I guess his new classroom is going to be the local tranny shop. The topic: economics and the cost of repairs.

okay so he did something dumb. Who here hasn't done a burnout? Doughnuts? Yanked the ebrake going down the highway? (okay so that last one wasn't such a good idea!) We've all done something stupid when adrenaline starts pumping the brain shuts off. I bet it was still fun. I watched a friend of mine do a burnout in reverse. It was really pretty cool - but everytime he put the trans in reverse, it whined like crazy! That was a dumb thing he did - but he still was one of the most fun people to hang with because he would do stuff other guys wouldn't.

Okay i'm off my soapbox -

As far as what to do? Yeah - you probably are pretty much screwed w/ that trans. In fact, it may not even last long just driving in the forward gears. You could try and drain the fluid and refill to get out some chunks, and maybe glue a B.F. magnet to the case to try and grab the shavings - but i'd start saving for a trans. But - you'll never try that again! Good luck.

I learned the easy way. I watched a dude do that to his Olds 442. RIght in front of us in a parking lot. His didn't grind and shake. He shattered the whole reverse gear in one big bang. THere was just nothing there in reverse. So I thinks to myself-I should probably not ever do that...hey, it sounds like fun, but the problem is the reverse gear itself is not designed to take any torque. Otherwise we would all be drag racing in reverse. There's a mental image...And I know about abuse. I had a Datsun LB110 in highschool that I put no less than 7 transmissions in and two rear ends...
Pull it out. Take it apart. Clean EVERYTHING. If you have driven it a lot, the previous post is correct. Once the metal shards and chips get into the other bearings and start to score the surfaces, it's too late. You could probably clean it up and replace the reverse gear and get some milage out of it. THat would be the least expensive way to get it going again. If you can afford it, have it rebuilt while its out. I G-force kit could go in there easy!

Well, thanks to those who offered some advice, I very much appreciate it.

As for the others, Its now clear that I dont want you in my thread. I dont need your blah blah baby bull**** sounding like my ****ing parents lectuing me on the limits of my car. So go into your ****ing heated 4 car garage, finish polishing your new chrome visor screws, and get the **** out of my thread.

And I dont give a **** about how many ****ing damn posts I can have. Sorry, I dont post here everyday, I have less time than some of you. Most of it is spent working on my car instead of having an internet forum orgasm over it every day of the week.

well i didnt do what he did cause i know that aint right but 2 or 3 months ago i was driving and all these older guys (im 17 they were 23+) all wanted to kick my ass so their was two ways of leaving go forward and run some of these sons of bitches over or go reverse. so i went into reverse because they had bats and they would of took those bats to the stang. so when i shifted to reverse and let off the clutch it made a tiny chirp and had to drive really fast in reverse because this huge 280+llb guy was running as fast as my car would go in reverse so dammn. after about 1/2 a block of going reverse he quit chasing me and i turned the wheel then slammed into first and got the frick outta there.

now is that ok to do? it was either ass beat or tranny blown but i doubt that didnt even hurt the tranny.

but yea dude good luck with your tranny transplant. its easy trust me. i never done it before and i put in my first transmission a while back ago. before ^ happend.
